Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Gets Update From Developer https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-kotor-remake-update/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 14:00:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 6bac2ad1-d75d-47ec-9e62-5faba89dcf99

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has a new update, but it is a brief one that is unlikely to satiate the need for Star Wars fans to know more about the game. What it does confirm is the project is still alive, something many have begun to doubt. For those that may have forgotten, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced back on September 9, 2021 for the PS5 and PC. At the time, it was in development at Aspyr Media.

In August of 2022, it was then reported the game had shifted to a new developer. More specifically, Saber Interactive replaced Aspyr Media. According to Embracer Group, the parent company of both, this shift was done to "ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title." At the time, it noted it did not expect the hand off to delay the game.

Since then, there is been no meaningful update on the game. And we still don't have that, but we do have an update. Again, the update doesn't reveal anything of note, but it does confirm the project is still alive.

The update specifically comes from Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits, who relayed word that the team is "focused on development," and will share more "when the time is right."

"Right now, we are focused on development. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right," said Willits while speaking to IGN.

Unfortunately, not only is this update brief, but there is no word when a proper update will come. If the game is still with PlayStation, as in a PS5 console exclusive, then it will presumably come during a PlayStation State of Play. To this end, a new State of Play is rumored to happen soon, but it is unlikely this game will be present given the timelines of Saber Interactive's other projects. It could though. It could also rear its head at The Game Awards this December. If we were betting on it though, we wouldn't bet on seeing this game anytime this year.

Star Wars' Biggest Missed Opportunity is Still Obi-Wan & Anakin in Episode 1.5 https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-biggest-missed-opportunity-is-still-obi-wan-anakin-in-episode-1-5/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 19:48:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 04cea337-ea50-4d02-8510-d73a03ed4360

On Thursday, to the surprise and delight of Star Wars fans (or at least those with Audible subscriptions), Disney-Lucasfilm Press released the new audiobook Star Wars: Padawan's Pride, which is the inaugural entry in the Star Wars Adventures: Audible Originals line of stories. That Star Wars: Padawan's Pride debuted without fanfare or prior promotion was surprising. The story is set 29 years before the Battle of Yavin, meaning it occurs between Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones, during the time of young Padawan Anakin Skywalker's apprenticeship under Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Another surprise may be that Padawan's Pride is one of only a relatively few stories set during this time. Despite a decade passing between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, and those years being vital to the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan, the only other significant story focusing on that relationship during those years is the 2016 Marvel Comics series Obi-Wan and Anakin. That story occurs later in the same year as Padawan's Pride, leaving a surprisingly significant gap in the Star Wars timeline.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin

- Marvel Comics)

That's not to say that every year in a franchise's calendar needs to be accounted for. However, that is how Star Wars usually operates. Over the years, the franchise has earned a reputation for leaving no minor plot detail unexplained and forcing as many ancillary stories into the gaps between movies as possible: There's a one-shot comic to explain C-3P0's red arm in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Marvel just finished cramming five years worth of comics into the single year that passed between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and one could argue that Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi series' primary purpose was to explain why Obi-Wan calls Darth Vader "Darth" instead of "Anakin" or "Vader" in A New Hope.

It's also odd that so little time has been spent giving fans a glimpse into Anakin's pre-Clone Wars training, spending comparatively more time on Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn's relationship with novels like Master & Apprentice and The Living Force. That doesn't account for all the attention Obi-Wan and Anakin receives in the stories told from Attack of the Clones onward. Even so, the formative early years of Obi-Wan and Anakin's partnership feel oddly underdeveloped.

All that considered, it's odd that Star Wars has left this crucial decade in young Skywalker's life as narratively barren as it has. Sure, there are some young reader materials one-shots, and short stories set in that era. Yet, they're generally not considered of much import the larger canon and, crucially, most of those tales don't feature the most important master-apprentice relationship being developed at that time.

Consider this: Only three years pass between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and Lucasfilm Animation created an entire seven-season series in that interval with Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Sure, the nature of the Clone Wars created plenty of wartime stories to tell in that era. However, those stories would perhaps have an even greater impact if fans had a greater understanding of what peacetime in the Republic looked like before the war and the Jedi's role during that era.

This makes it even more odd that Lucasfilm has been seemingly reluctant to tell the story of Anakin and Obi-Wan's early years. The influence of Japanese samurai films on Star Wars has been long chronicled and made even more explicit in some of the streaming series produced under Dave Filoni. Tales of samurai training and stories about samurai transitioning from the war-torn Sengoku period of Japanese history into the era of the "Shogun's peace" that followed could inspire and form the basis for a series (I'd suggest an ongoing comic or anime-style animated series) following Obi-Wan and Anakin. Such a series -- which could be more or less episodic, structurally -- would allow readers to get to know who these characters were before they became fully swept up in the tides of history and destiny, as seen in the Skywalker saga films.

Regardless of how others may feel about my particular ideas for what a Obi-Wan and Anakin-focused tale might shape up to be in this era, it remains weird that the decade between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones remains relatively untouched. Is it being reserved for some plan that hasn't yet come to fruition? Is the lack of stories in that era tied to Kathleen Kennedy's belief that fans would reject other actors in the roles of Obi-Wan and Anakin besides Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen (digitally de-aging can only go so far, after all)? Is it a combination of the two that has prevented Marvel and Lucasfilm Publishing from filling that period with comic book and prose stories? Regardless, it is strangely out of character for the stewards of the Star Wars franchise.

Transformers One Review & Peak Geek TV Part 3 https://comicbook.com/movies/news/transformers-one-explained-agatha-all-along-penguin-tv-show-spoilers-reactions/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 18:37:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw c26d3c64-df85-409e-a630-da5c3725211f

The ComicBook Nation crew review Transformers One, and it's Peak Geek TV time again with Agatha All Along, The Penguin and Zack Snyder's anime Twilight of the Gods all premiering this week!

PLUS: The Clue movie reboot may have a director; the Transformers & G.I. Joe movie gets an update; Zack Snyder's 300 TV series is happening - and Netflix's One Piece Season 2 drops some major casting surprises!

Transformers One Review

Here's what ComicBook Nation's Anime Initiative host Evan Valentine had to say about his 4-star review of Transformers One:

I would be remiss by not calling this the best Transformers film since the 1980s animated film. If this is the future of the Transformers franchise, then Autobot and Decepticons fans have a bright future to look forward to indeed.

The Penguin Review

ComicBook's Jenna Anderson had the following to say in her 4.5 out of 5 star review of The Penguin:

Across its eight episodes, The Penguin redefines what verisimilitude can mean in the world of comic book adaptations. The grittiness, violence, and double-crossing that fans would expect from the title are abundantly present, but balanced with a truly heartfelt take on loss, rebirth, and personal agency. The series is not only one of the better crime dramas in recent memory, it is one of the best examples of how to branch out decades of beloved lore. The Penguin is simply a show about people trying to thrive in a world much bigger and weirder than they can even comprehend - a subject that would be universal nonetheless, but transforms into something special with its engrossing performances.

Star Wars Games Are Less Than $1 in New Sale https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-games-sale-deals-fanatical/ Fri, 20 Sep 2024 20:36:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 83ba56f6-6e73-466f-acc9-07ac7b8293cd

Star Wars games are technically less than $1 in a new sale. The sale comes the way of Fanatical, a third-party seller of Steam keys. This unfortunately means those on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox one, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are set to miss out on this new deal as it is limited to PC, and more specifically, limited to Steam.

Right now, at the moment of writing this, Fanatical has a Prestige Collection bundle that lets Steam users bundle games to save serious money. The options are two games for $7.50, three games for $7.33, or five games for $7.00. Meanwhile, the games featured are Hi-Fi Rush, Control Ultimate Edition, ANNO: Mutationem, Moving Out 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Saints Row Gold Edition, Dying Light: Definitive Edition, Thymesia, Killer Frequency, Nightmare: The Lunatic, Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons, Hunt the Night, Ultra Age, Gladiator Guild Manager, Time to Morp, Trail Out, Corpse Keeper, Immortal Life, A Guidebook of Babel, Smalland: Survive the Wilds, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Isonzo, and Star Wars Collection.

Build Your Prestige Collection Bundle at Fanatical

There is obviously some junk and filler here, but there are also some new, great, and AAA games as well. Meanwhile, Star Wars Collection itself is a massive bundle of 14 classic Star Wars games. More specifically, a bundle featuring the following Star Wars games: Stars Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith, Star Wars Republic Commando, Star Wars Starfighter, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, Star Wars The Force Unleashed II, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Empire at War: Gold Pack, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, and Star Wars Battlefront II (Classic).

Those that decide to get Star Wars Collection via this bundle are not just getting 14 classic Star Wars games for $0.50, but four other games from the list above as well.

As any deal with Fanatical, this is as supplies last. In other words, it is possible that by the time you are reading this, the games above, including the Star Wars Collection, may no longer be available. Right now though, they are.

Star Wars Just Surprise Released a New Anakin and Obi-Wan Story https://comicbook.com/movies/news/star-wars-just-surprise-released-a-new-anakin-and-obi-wan-story/ Fri, 20 Sep 2024 18:14:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 2fa649f5-a20e-4398-80c0-1fb672deda96

starLucasfilm and Smallville writer Bryan Q. Miller have released a new Star Wars story on Audible, which centers on Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi and takes place in the time following Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Narrated by Kevin Kemp, the story -- titled Star Wars: Padawan's Pride -- runs around four hours long and was released without any advance notice or promotion. Besides being a prequel-era story, the adventures in Padawan's Pride are specifically crafted to appeal fans of The Phantom Menace, in that the story centers on a young Anakin having to infiltrate the podracing circuit where there's a criminal conspiracy going on.

According to the official synopsis, which you can see below, there's the A plot of trying to infiltrate the podracing circuit, and then a B plot where Anakin and Obi-Wan are struggling to get along together...until Obi-Wan is called away, leaving Anakin alone and wishing he had someone there to back him up.

This story comes not long after a recent interview, in which Ewan McGregor said he hopes he will get to come back to the Star Wars universe again following the events of the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries.

"I really do hope we get a chance to do another one," McGregor said. "Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there's another few stories to tell in there."

McGregor's Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen is also all for the actor returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi, both if it means he'd get to work with him again and just to see him take on the role once more from a fan's perspective.

"If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that's a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character," Christensen said. "Just as a fan, it's so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan -- he's just so good at it."

You can get the story here. Here's how Audible describes it:

Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker star in this thrilling galactic adventure set three years after the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

When a Republic spy goes missing on the Moons of Varl, the Jedi Council asks Obi-Wan and Anakin to infiltrate an underground podracing circuit run by a crime boss believed to be holding the spy prisoner. With Anakin posing as a hotshot racer and Obi-Wan as his attendant, tensions between the two threaten to run even higher than usual.

But when Obi-Wan is forced to leave Varl, Anakin is on his own as he faces a series of increasingly treacherous races that will determine his fate-and that of the spy.

Master and apprentice must use all their Jedi skills in this action-packed tale of cutthroat competition, deadly deception, and, ultimately, what it means to be a Padawan.

Star Wars: Padawan's Pride is available now.

Star Wars Brings Back the Bad Batch for New Clone Wars Story https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-bad-batch-for-new-clone-wars-story-dark-horse/ Fri, 20 Sep 2024 17:37:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 629cacae-3915-4f51-af53-8fcc83c617db

The Bad Batch's Disney+ series may be over, but their adventures are continuing in comic book form. Star Wars: The Bad Batch ran for three seasons, with the final season concluding earlier this year on Disney+. The streaming series followed Clone Force 99, a group of clone troopers first introduced in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. What made the Bad Batch unique is they all had genetic mutations that kept them from falling under the control of the Emperor's Order 66 and turning on their Jedi allies. Now, fans can revisit the Clone Wars and a dangerous mission the Bad Batch were a part of.

StarWarsNewsNet.com announced Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories - The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents, a five-issue miniseries by writer Michael Moreci (Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories, Burning Fields) and artist Reese Hannigan (Black Spot, Terminus), with Elisabetta D'Amico (Black Widow, Cloak and Dagger), Michael Atiyeh (Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora) and lettering by Comicraft (Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories--Qui-Gon, Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures).

Hyperspace Stories are a set of anthologies released by Dark Horse that cover different eras in the Star Wars timeline. Dark Horse acquired the license for Star Wars comics in 2022, taking over the all-ages line from IDW. Marvel still publishes Star Wars titles and is getting ready for a relaunch that moves its storytelling to the period after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

The art below is not the final cover art, but it does give a sense of what fans can expect when the series debuts early next year. Valeria "Lux" Favoccia (Stranger Things, By A Thread) is doing covers, with variant cover art by French Carlomagno (The Dead Lucky, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories Volume 1).

What is Dark Horse's Star Wars: The Bad Batch comic about?

The Clones of the Bad Batch have been through some intense missions throughout the Clone Wars and it's said they have a 100% success rate. But this time, they may have met their match. In Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents, they are on a mission to hunt down the mysterious Separatist ghost agent who executed a daring heist on Coruscant! The thief's trail leads Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, and Tech to the seediest corners of the galaxy, a place where kingpins and thugs threaten the clones' mission--and their lives!

"I think everyone who knows my Star Wars work knows I love the Clone Wars... And the Bad Batch is probably my favorite part of that," Moreci said in a statement. "They're just so cool and unique; they're like 1980s action heroes dropped into the Star Wars universe, and I love that. I'm after that look and feel-it's going to be a lot of fun, and I'm just thrilled to bring more Bad Batch stories to life!"

Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents #1 goes on sale January 15, 2025. Let us know your thoughts on the series on social media @ComicBook!

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Reveals First Look at Jaleel White's Space Pirate https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-skeleton-crew-jaleel-white-space-pirate-first-look-photo/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 15:09:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 5e96da5d-7480-4492-8057-11f17c852ae5

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has enlisted a sitcom icon of the '90s to play a space pirate. The newest Star Wars series to premiere on Disney+ is taking a slightly different route with its theme. Headlined by Jude Law, Skeleton Crew features a cast of four kids who get lost on an outer space adventure. When you're lost in a galaxy far, far away, it's easy to run across some less-than-stellar individuals. The Star Wars franchise has been filled with pirates throughout the years, and one of their new additions is Jaleel White, star of the ABC sitcom Family Matters.

Entertainment Weekly has the first look at a group of space pirates in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Jaleel White, who played Urkel in Family Matters, is among the space pirates. His character's name is Gunter, who has a cyborg-look about himself. White's Gunter has a sensor over his right eye and a panel strapped to his chest. Standing next to Gunter is Vane, played by Marti Matulis. Vane is a character Star Wars fans will remember from The Mandalorian, after he gave Din Djarin and Greek Karga a tough time. The other pirates in the Skeleton Crew photo are Brutus (Frank Tatasciore, performance artist: Stephan Oyoung), Pax (performance artist: Mike Estes), and Chaelt (Dale Soules).

Skeleton Crew creators discuss how space pirates factor into Star Wars show

Creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford talked about how they incorporated space pirates into Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. "With the era we're in, we're kind of getting to play with that lawless thing," Ford told EW. "The Empire is gone, and so we're playing with a part of the galaxy that has a resurgence of piracy."

"Pirates are talked about so much in Star Wars," Ford added. "People would call Han Solo a pirate and he'd be like, 'How dare you?' And we've seen some awesome pirates in the animated shows. So this was something where both [executive producers] Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau were really excited to do more pirate stuff."

Jon Watts noted how he is excited to play in the Star Wars sandbox, along with his love of a certain Lucasfilm video game from the '90s. "I'm also a big fan of Monkey Island," Watts said. "That's also classic Lucas. So somewhere between Star Wars pirates and Monkey Island pirates. I think we found our sweet spot."

What is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew about?

When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.

Jude Law (Captain Marvel, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) plays the human Jedi Jod Na Nawood, the adult leader of a motley crew of galaxy-faring kids that includes Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), KB (Kyriana Kratter), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), and Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong).

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew debuts Tuesday, December 3rd on Disney+.

Star Wars Jedi 3 Confirmed to Be the Final Game in the Series https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-jedi-3-ea-respawn-final-game/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 19:31:00 +0000 Logan Moore 14704000-9896-4f3c-90d1-dec3ed2b87d7

Electronic Arts has confirmed that the next game in the Star Wars Jedi series will be the final one that Respawn Entertainment creates. Not long after the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor this past year, Cameron Monaghan, the actor behind protagonist Cal Kestis, revealed that Respawn was already in the process of working on a third installment. Since then, details on what is merely being dubbed "Star Wars Jedi 3" have been few and far between. Now, EA has broken that silence just a bit and has given some initial info on Cal's next adventure.

Speaking during EA's Investor Day 2024 presentation, company president Laura Miele said that the next game in the Star Wars Jedi series will be the "final chapter" of the series. Few other details were shared about the upcoming title, likely because it's still very early on in development. The only other thing that was divulged was the lifetime sales of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have now topped 40 million combined.

"Over 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis and his arc of becoming a powerful Jedi," Miele said. "Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players."

The idea of Star Wars Jedi being a trilogy is something that we've known about for a little over a year. In proximity to the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, director Stig Asmussen said that those at Respawn always intended for the series to be comprised of three games in total. Now it's known that this dream will become a reality, although curiously, without Asmussen at the helm. The director of both Fallen Order and Survivor left Respawn in the back half of 2023 to establish his own studio. At the time of this writing, it's not known who will direct Star Wars Jedi 3, although more details should emerge in the months and years ahead.

Elsewhere, EA also confirmed this week that the next game in the Battlefield series will return to a modern setting and will center around 64-person multiplayer matches. New info on this yet-to-be-titled entry in the franchise is said to be arriving in 2025.

Star Wars: Darth Vader Saved Luke Skywalker Before Return of the Jedi https://comicbook.com/comics/news/marvel-star-wars-darth-vader-50-final-issue-luke-skywalker-schism-imperial/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 22:45:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 166d356d-6de8-4e20-a92b-e8087225433d

"You saved the Skywalker boy, but he will never join you. And you can't defeat the Emperor alone." So says Sly Moore in this week's Star Wars: Darth Vader #50, the series grand finale of writer Greg Pak and artist Raffaele Ienco's run on the Marvel comic. On sale Sept. 18th, the giant-sized conclusion is titled "Terminus" and will end Marvel's current era of comics set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, where Vader dies saving his son -- the Jedi Luke Skywalker -- from the Emperor aboard the Death Star II.

But Vader saved Luke long before the return of Anakin Skywalker. Below, read on for a preview of what to expect from the 64-page Darth Vader finale and a recap of recent events.

A FEW ISSUES AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...

The Dark Lord of the Sith has been leading Sly Moore's Schism Imperial, a covert group of Imperials determined to overthrow Emperor Palpatine. After facing the Cult of the Sith Eternal and the psycho-venomous Summa-Verminoth on the Sith Citadel on the planet Exegol, Vader raided the Kyber Temple and claimed a crimson red Kyber crystal. He then fashioned himself a staff and shield with the crystals that powered the cannons of the Galactic Empire's planet-destroying superweapon: the Death Star.

In a vision about Vader and Skywalker's futures in Empire, the Emperor taunted his Sith apprentice. "I knew that once you'd seen the power of Exegol, you would eventually try to seize it for yourself. Because you are a Sith," Palpatine said. "It is in our nature to seize any and all power. But what will you use it for? There are only two Sith. So who are they? You and I? Or your son and I? Or you... and your son?"

Meanwhile, Sab? -- the former handmaiden of Naboo's Queen Amidala, who knew Luke's parents as Anakin and Padm? -- confronted the Jedi on the Outer Rim planet Caranthanax B and attempted to provoke his dark side. As Vader sensed his son's anger through the Force, the Sith Lord attempted to wield the unstable power of the Kyber of Exegol. "Anger leads to hate," Vader said, "and hate leads to power." Sab? planned to kill Luke if she saw even a glimmer of the Sith in him, but the Jedi proved to her: "I am not my father."

Administrator Moore similarly planned to kill Skywalker because "if we kill the boy, we destroy the Emperor's dearest plans." An angered Vader refused, so the Umbaran's Schism Imperial betrayed Vader and injected his armor with a body-controlling droid brain to steal his Kyber weapons.

"The Sith say there can only be two. A master and an apprentice. Like the Emperor and Vader. Or the Emperor and Skywalker. Or Vader and Skywalker," Administrator Moore told the Schism. "But if we remove Vader... and Skywalker... who else remains? I will become the second Sith, ruling at the Emperor's side. And the Schism Imperial... will become the Empire itself."

The Schism attacked Vader and abandoned him, as he did the M.A.R. Corps: the cybernetic Rebel warriors Tandorvo, Masakint, Blades, and Chamdaka. While Vader was trapped as a prisoner in his own body, the Schism attacked the Jedi and his allies on Caranthanax B with their Kyber weapon. When Vader warned the M.A.R. Corps that the Schism was going to kill the Rebellion's hero, he told them of Skywalker: "If you Rebels want to save him... you need my help."

The droid ZED-6-7 speculated that Darth Vader wished to save Skywalker because the Jedi "could become strong and useful" should he survive the Schism. Vader broke free of the M.A.R. Corps' implanted droid brain just as the Schism's Death Machine landed on Caranthanax B, where Administrator Moore proposed an alliance with Skywalker. "I used to think the rule of two meant the Emperor and Vader. Or perhaps one of them and you. But what if it meant... you and me?" she said. "The Schism and the Rebellion. That could topple the Empire."

With Schism's Death Machine threatening to drain all life from the planet, including Sab?, Skywalker surrendered himself -- just as he felt his father's presence on Caranthanax B. Administrator Moore fired her Kyber weapon at the Jedi... only to have Vader block it through the Force.

Darth Vader #50 picks up where issue #49 left off when the finale hits stands on Sept. 18th. See the official synopsis below.

Star Wars Outlaws Players Warned About Overusing a Handy Feature https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-feature-map/ Sat, 14 Sep 2024 21:26:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 22082178-0893-47ac-b90f-2884e4c7113b

Star Wars Outlaws has been out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S for a few weeks now, and there is no denying it has failed to make good on what was no doubt a large AAA budget and expensive licensing costs. While the game may end up being a failed project for developer Massive Entertainment and publisher Ubisoft, it has found a home among some hardcore Star Wars fans who have excitedly explored their favorite universe in a way they never have before.

One of the big appeals of the game is the massive open environments to explore. There isn't just one world though. Players can fast travel to other words. And as the Star Wars Outlaws Reddit page reveals, there are players who think this can only be done by going to your ship and taking off. However, this isn't the case. This can be done via the map as well.

While some players on the game's Reddit page are excited to learn about this feature after many hours playing the Star Wars game, others are also now learning why it is perhaps best not use this otherwise handy feature.

The only problem with enjoying this time-saving feature is that you miss out on various chatter and banter in the game, such as Nix being scolded for chewing on something. However, any player who has spent lots of time exploring has probably exhausted the number of conversations the game has, which means those in the late game who have not been using this feature are probably safe from missing this content. Nonetheless, if you get FOMO easy and are worried about missing content, no matter how tiny, it may be best to skip this map shortcut.

Star Wars Outlaws is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. For more coverage on the new Star Wars game, click here.

"Outlaws, while not without fault, offers an expansive exploration of the galaxy far, far away the likes of which Star Wars fans haven't seen before, with multiple dense planets to explore as players aim to become the best thief in the galaxy, making a name for themselves through Outlaws' reputation system while experiencing a compelling new piece of the Star Wars narrative," reads a snippet of our review of the new Ubisoft game.

Star Wars: Donald Glover Teases Wanting to Bring the Fun Back to the Saga With Lando https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-lando-donald-glover-plans-hopes-fun-serious-skywalkers-spinoff/ Fri, 13 Sep 2024 16:02:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh feb3bd45-fd4f-4bae-a12b-28cb02ff9ae0

Throughout the history of the Star Wars franchise, fans have been given a variety of stories that explore multiple attempts by fascist groups to oppress the entirety of the galaxy, as well as the forces that band together to fight back against those regimes. This comes with an inherent intensity, so one thing that Donald Glover hopes to bring back to the franchise with the upcoming Star Wars: Lando is a sense of fun and adventure to counteract the heavier elements of the Skywalker Saga. Glover is currently set to develop a movie featuring Lando, though that project doesn't have a confirmed release date.

During a recent conversation with the Wall Street Journal, when asked what Glover wanted to accomplish with Lando, Glover expressed, "I just want it to be fun. As a Star Wars fan myself, I think it's important that there just needs to be more fun being had, it's very hard to have fun right now. It's tough, because there are very serious things happening and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly, so I get why things are serious. But part of the human experience, I believe, is we have a responsibility to have enjoyment. And I just feel like we're lacking in that department."

He continued, "Star Wars, I love it, but sometimes it be super serious, sometimes it be way too serious. Everything that has to do with the Skywalkers is so serious. Lando, I think the best part about him, is he's a scoundrel and I feel like people can relate to that. He's probably like, 'Man, this war is wack, I need money,' which I feel everyone can relate to, so I just want it to be fun."

Glover debuted in the franchise with Solo: A Star Wars Story, and while the film itself earned a divisive response among Star Wars fans, the one element of the origin story that earned nearly universal praise was Glover's performance as a young Lando. While Solo seemed to be setting up a possible series of films, the closest fans were given to confirmation of a continuation was Lucasfilm announcing a Star Wars: Lando miniseries in 2020.

Despite the confidence of announcing the miniseries, few updates were given about the project over the years, with the most recent update coming back in February from Glover himself. Since the announcement of the miniseries, Glover and his brother Stephen Glover are said to be pivoting to develop a movie instead of a miniseries. It's currently unclear when the movie could move forward and whether it will be a theatrical release or a project planned for streaming.

Stay tuned for updates on Star Wars: Lando.

How LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Brought Jedi Bob to Life https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/lego-star-wars-rebuild-the-galaxy-jedi-bob-interview/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 23:48:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 2d9fc90a-c9d3-4882-a4bf-aeb25abba425

The four-part miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy arrives on Disney+ this weekend, providing a unique take on the Star Wars galaxy that fans know and love. One major player in the episodes is Jedi Bob (Bobby Moynihan), who was originally an unnamed Jedi part of the official LEGO sets for Attack of the Clones, before evolving into a niche fan-favorite. While speaking to ComicBook about LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, executive producers and writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit spoke about the decision to include Jedi Bob in the special's reality-warping fold.

"Just like Darth Jar Jar was an early idea, that was another early idea," Samit explained in our interview, which you can check out above. "I'm a huge LEGO nerd. LEGO and Star Wars, individually, are my two great loves going back to childhood. So being able to do this with them both together has really been a dream come true. But yeah, early on, I was like, 'Well, if we're doing this like amazing celebration of all things, LEGO Star Wars for the 25th anniversary, you know who the Jedi Master should be? It should be Jedi Bob.' And that was met with a lot of 'Who?' Because some people know, but it's a deep cut. It's definitely a deep cut. And again, to everyone's credit, they were like, 'Yes, that sounds awesome.' It's really been rewarding to see the long-time LEGO Star Wars fans get so excited that Jedi Bob is back."

What Is LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy About?

In LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, the entire Star Wars Galaxy gets completely mixed up when an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo), unearths a powerful artifact from a hidden Jedi temple. He finds himself thrust into adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good, and the fate of all depends on Sig becoming the hero who can put all the pieces back together.

The voice cast of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy includes Gaten Matarazzo as Sig Greebling, Tony Revolori as Dev Greebling, Bobby Moynihan as Jedi Bob, Marsai Martin as Yesi Scala, Michael Cusack as Servo, Ahmed Best as Darth Jar Jar, and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy will debut exclusively on Disney+ on September 13th. If you haven't signed up for Disney+ yet, you can try it out here.

Marvel Puts a Star Wars Twist on Death Note https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-grim-rose-explained-death-note-anime-manga-connection/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 16:32:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 951d793c-914b-434c-a9f2-9e0aa8717cec

The issue of Marvel's Star Wars comic series tells a dark sci-fi story, revealing how Luke Skywalker, Leia and their allies found a way to kill Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious, only to end up having to weigh choices of life and death that are totally on par with the manga/anime series Death Note. In fact, Star Wars #50 feels less like a Star Wars movie and more like an episode of Death Note. Read on for SPOILERS if you don't believe it.

In the finale to Marvel's Star Wars series, Luke Skywalker is living in the post-war era of the New Republic, and preparing his student Ben Solo to graduate to Jedi Knight. Luke tests Ben's moral resolve by telling him a secret story from the years between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, when he, Leia, Lando, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO tracked down the "Grim Rose," an ancient box that uses "arcane mystical power" to kill any target, after being fed a sample of the target's genetic material.

That premise sounds just like the Death Note notebook from the anime/manga series, which used the lore of Japanese Shinigami to explain how the protagonist, Light Yagami, kills his targets. Like Death Note, Star Wars #50 is focused on the moral ambiguity of having the power to kill indirectly, and how one chooses to use that power. In the case of Star Wars, the plot device of the Grim Rose sets up the framework of the age-old question: If you had the opportunity to assassinate a dictator/mass murderer, would you do it? Should you do it?

marvel-star-wars-50-comic-death-note-anime-manga.jpg
(Photo: Marvel Comics)

Full disclosure: Star Wars #50 kind of side-steps the issue by revealing later in the issue that the Grim Rose doesn't just kill its target - it has to search out its target spiritually, by way of the path of their spiritual influence. The box finds the closest person who carries echoes of the target spirit's influences, and follows the chain of that influence all the way back to the target. In Palpatine's case, his influence as both Emperor and Sith Lord meant that thousands of souls had been influenced been him - including Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. In order to kill Palpatine, the Grim Rose would have to extinguish all those other souls, as well.

Luke and Co. learn of this caveat before turning on the Grim Rose, and hesitate - but Chewbacca's rage at what the Empire did to his home and people makes the sacrifice worth it, in his eyes. Once the box is on, there's no way to destroy it or stop it; Luke ultimately figures out the loophole of changing targets, feeding the box a sample from the corpse of an ancient Jedi whose life (and all the personal connections in it) is already done.

Ironically, the story ends with Luke imparting the lesson to Ben Solo that you can't become evil to defeat evil - words Luke clearly forgets, when he almost strikes Ben down out of fear, sometime afterward.

Star Wars #50 (and the entire comic series) is available at Marvel Comics.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Writers Talk Bringing Darth Jar Jar to Life https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/lego-star-wars-rebuild-the-galaxy-writers-darth-jar-jar/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 05:00:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 02128b37-d0d8-4abf-aab3-b99175ab346f

The Star Wars galaxy is getting a major remix later this week, with the launch of the Disney+ miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. The animated episodes aim to subvert audience's expectations of the long-running sci-fi franchise, which apparently included folding in some niche or unexpected fan theories. Chief among them might be Darth Jar Jar (Ahmed Best), an evil Sith version of the beloved Gungan, who is brought to life after years of fans suggesting that the character might have a dark side. As LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy executive producers and writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit explained in an exclusive interview with ComicBook, the decision to make Darth Jar Jar a reality was an easy one.

"I mean, it's dream come true," Samit explained in our interview, which you can check out above. "LEGO Star Wars, I don't know if it's fully canon, but it's canon-adjacent, at the very least. That was one of those things where, very early on in these discussions about what this show was gonna be like -- we knew we wanted to rebuild the galaxy, mash things up, and it felt like the perfect opportunity. 'We need to do Darth Jar Jar.' That was one of the first ideas we had where we were just sort of like, 'Do you think we could try this thing?' And to everyone at Lucasfilm and LEGO's credit, they just said yes. Everyone was game for exactly what we wanted to do here. I can think back to us, before we had any success, just hanging out, eating junk food, and theorizing about Dar Jar Jar. And now to say that we made it happen is pretty wild."

Bobby Moynihan Talks Embodying Fan-Favorite Jedi Bob in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/bobby-moynihan-jedi-bob-lego-star-wars-rebuild-the-galaxy/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 03:43:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson d2c76ded-351b-417a-b9ef-5e3d453b77d8

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is headed to Disney+, offering a four-episode animated subversion of the Star Wars world. In addition to featuring alternate takes on characters from across the Star Wars mythos, Rebuild the Galaxy also features the animated debut of Jedi Bob (Bobby Moynihan), a notorious character among LEGO collectors. Originally an unnamed Jedi who was part of the official LEGO sets for Attack of the Clones, the character was subsequently given the name Bob by fans, and will now formally get some backstory. While speaking to ComicBook about LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, Moynihan addressed the unique challenge of voicing a character with franchise history, but with no previous canon surrounding him.

"It's really fun," Moynihan explained in our interview, which you can check out above. "I mean, it's pretty unique to get handed something that's been around forever, but never been done before. It was super fun to kind of learn more about him and to get to be a part of that. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. So the fact that I'm Jedi Bob, I get to be a little Jedi Bob. I'm so happy."

"I tried to do Qui-Gon-ish," Moynihan said of finding Jedi Bob's voice. "He's a little, got a little Obi-Wan Kenobi, a little Qui-Gon, but a lot of Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon, where sometimes he's just over it real quickly and drops the fancy. He's acting like a fancy Jedi, but he's just Jedi Bob."

How Marvel's Star Wars Finale Connects to the Sequel Trilogy https://comicbook.com/comics/news/marvel-star-wars-50-finale-ending-explained-sequel-trilogy-grim-rose/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 01:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo f7bd75b9-884b-468a-b387-37363737b506

Always two, there are. Marvel's Star Wars comics will end in September with two giant-size grand finales -- Star Wars #50 by Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov, and Darth Vader #50 by Greg Pak and Raffaele Inco -- and a new era of the galaxy far, far away will begin in October with a line-wide relaunch bridging the age of the New Republic and the Rise of the First Order. Wednesday's Star Wars #50, titled "The Path of Hope," concludes the era of comics set in the time period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, before the Rebellion defeated Emperor Palpatine and the evil Galactic Empire.

The story begins some time before The Force Awakens, when Jedi Master Luke Skywalker has taken Ben Solo as his Jedi apprentice at the First Temple on the Outer Rim planet Ossus. Believing Ben could become a leader in the New Jedi Order, Luke recalls on a story that may guide his nephew in the future. Leaders have to make "choices about life and death," he tells his padawan, reflecting on a time when Han Solo was frozen in carbonite as a prisoner of Jabba the Hutt.

marvel-star-wars-50.jpg

In a flashback to the Age of Rebellion, Luke returns to Gazian, a planet in the galaxy's Middle Rim. (Through a living vergence in the Force, the younger Luke met an echo of the High Republic Jedi Elzar Mann, who would eventually lead Luke to Ahch-To and the sacred Jedi texts seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.) The planet is covered by a network of fungus that imprints and records a duplicate of any alive mind it encounters -- including the fallen High Republic-era Jedi Azlin Rell.

Luke went to Gazian seeking knowledge to defeat the Sith, but Rell explains it was the collective-mind presence of the Jedi who helped him before. The eyeless Jedi offers his own knowledge: "A way to end your enemies with no risk to you or those you care for." Rell sends Luke's rebels -- Leia Organa, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and R2-D2 and C-3PO -- to the frozen-over Inner Rim planet Niraya, where they defeat an Imperial garrison and unearth an ancient artifact buried deep within the tundra.

Threepio translates the ancient text and reveals the artifact is a weapon: a device known as the Grim Rose. Decades before the First Order would weaponize its own planet-destroying superweapon, the Rebellion possessed a weapon capable of killing anyone -- and anywhere -- in the galaxy. Once supplied with a person's genetic material, the Grim Rose uses "arcane mystical power," according to Threepio, to search the galaxy as it follows a path through lives that have been touched by the intended target: Emperor Palpatine.

star-wars-grim-rose.jpg

Luke suspects the Grim Rose doesn't utilize technology or science, but the Force. Leia realizes that they can find Palpatine's genetic data on his home planet of Naboo, where Sheev Palpatine served as senator before becoming chancellor and then emperor. Senators are required to provide two sets of genetic samples for biometric identification within the Galactic Senate, so Lando infiltrates the royal archives and retrieves a portion of Palpatine's samples from a records clerk sympathetic to the Rebellion.

Luke, Leia, and Lando debate the ethics of using the device to assassinate Emperor Palpatine, but Chewbacca has no such reservations and enters Palpatine's genetic data into the killing machine. Translating Shyriiwook as he speaks for Chewbacca, Threepio relays that the Empire seized Kashyyyk and enslaved the Wookiee homeworld. "You said this thing would kill Palpatine," Chewbacca says, "so I killed him."

Threepio discovers that the mechanism doesn't just kill its target, but every person along the path it followed to get there. Luke and Leia want to stop the assassination device, but Lando argues it will be Imperial officers, dignitaries, and bureaucrats caught in the crossfire -- not innocents. "I don't care if it kills a hundred people. It's worth it," Lando declares. "Let it run." Luke senses the Grim Rose path is growing into the thousands and must be switched off before it zeroes in on other targets, so the Jedi attempts to shatter the weapon with his own: his yellow-bladed lightsaber.

star-wars-luke-skywalker-azlin-rell.jpg

Returning to the Living Sea of Gazian once more to find Azlin Rell and question him about the Grim Rose, Luke meets for the first time a young explorer named Lor San Tekka (who will hide Luke's location from the Sith Kylo Ren decades later in The Force Awakens). Rell reappears and gleefully tells Luke that the device will run until it finds its target -- and the ensuing cascade of mass deaths. Luke learns that the target can be changed, however, and realizes that the path can be redirected to someone who is already dead... like the long-decaying bodies preserved in the Living Sea.

Back at the Jedi Temple on Ossus, Luke explains to Ben that he gave the Grim Rose a piece of bone from an ancient skeleton to change the device's target. As soon as the box realized that the target was already dead, it deactivated, and the Emperor would eventually die alongside Darth Vader aboard the second Death Star. The lesson, Luke tells his apprentice, is this: "Don't become evil to defeat evil." When asked if his tale was true, Luke responds: "Of course it was true, Ben. All of it."

Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Holding Out Hope to Play Obi-Wan Kenobi Again https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ewan-mcgregor-holding-out-hope-to-play-obi-wan-kenobi-again/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 23:21:00 +0000 Nicole Drum febc5be1-c1b0-4db5-8336-a9e06bca9aee

It's been two years since Star Wars fans saw Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ series of the same name, but the actor is hopeful that the six-episode series won't be the last time he gets to bring the iconic Jedi Master to life on screen. Speaking with Variety, McGregor revisited his time playing the beloved character -- which he first took on 25 years ago for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace -- and revealed that he's not done with Obi-Wan just yet. McGregor says he thinks there are more stories to tell before the timeline catches up with Alec Guinness' portrayal in Star Wars: A New Hope.

McGregor has previously shared his desire to return as Obi-Wan as well. Earlier this year, the actor opened up about how he hadn't heard anything about future seasons of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but that he loves the role and wanted to take it on again, noting that he had "a few years yet" before he caught up to Guinness' age in A New Hope.

"The truth is I've talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that and I'm not lying about this now," McGregor said at the time. "I don't know. There's been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm, or Disney saying, 'Let's do another one.' Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it's out and people like it, which I'm very, very pleased about. I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I'm sure we will. I'm pretty sure, you know, I've got a few years yet before I'm the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So, there's time to tell more stories in there."

Of course, while the desire is there from McGregor, there hasn't been much in the way of chatter about more Obi-Wan Kenobi or even an appearance by the character in other Star Wars projects but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. The Andor series is set within the same general time frame of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which could arguably create a space for, if not an actual appearance but paths to future stories. A second season of Andor is itself expected to arrive in 2025. It isn't to say that there isn't still a chance for another round of Obi-Wan, either. While the series has been billed as a limited series, in 2023 series director Deborah Chow said that she and McGregor had discussed how a follow-up to Obi-Wan could work.

"You always think you're going to end a series like this in some magnificent way, but instead you end up in a parking lot with second unit and hardly anybody there," Chow said at the time. "It's always so anticlimactic, but as Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two. There's another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don't think it's off the board. It is a 'never say never' situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series."

Obi-Wan Kenobi is streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars: Disney Getting Sued for Peter Cushing's Appearance in Rogue One https://comicbook.com/irl/news/disney-star-wars-sued-lawsuit-rogue-one-peter-cushing-tarkin-cgi/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 20:50:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 4d09c7e4-d7d2-4a84-8e70-d8eed8cbcddb

Disney and Lucasfilm have a new lawsuit headed their way, over their use of late actor Peter Cushing's image in the Star Wars spinoff film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, back in 2016. According to reports, London-based film company Tyburn Film Productions has gotten a judge's formal ruling to take legal action against Disney, citing a deal they allegedly signed with Cushing in 1994, which gave them veto rights over the recreation of his image using special effects. Rogue One did just that, by using CGI to face-swap Cushing's likeness onto a body double (HBO's Rome actor Guy Henry) in order to recreate Grand Moff Tarkin, the role Cushing played in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977).

According to the legal team representing Tyburn, Cushing made the deal with them due to a situation with a TV movie that Cushing was going to do with the studio until the project fell apart. Tyburn's suit alleges that Lucasfilm and Lunak Heavy Industries (a producer on the original Star Wars Trilogy) got "unjust enrichment" from having Rogue One feature Cushing's likeness as Tarkin, without proper permission. Lucasfilm and Lunak have countered that they did not believe that the terms of the contract between Cushing and Tyburn weren't violated by the way his likeness was used in Rogue One, arguing that Disney/Lucasfilm owns the rights to Cushing's image (as Tarkin), as part of owning the rights to the original Star Wars film.

Lucasfilm and Lunak already tried to get the case dismissed in court in December of last year, but were rejected. This latest ruling from the judge is also a rejection of the appeal for dismissal that Lucasfilm and Lunak made after having the initial dismissal claim rejected.

(Photo: Disney / Lucasfilm)

It should be noted that deputy High Court Judge Tom Mitcheson KC didn't view either side as having an especially strong case. The judge stated that case was not as "unarguable" as Lucasfilm and Lunak wanted to claim; but he was also "far from persuaded" that Tyburn Film Productions had a case that could be one, in these circumstances. The case will now presumably head to trial.

Use of celebrity likenesses has been a debated topic ever since film became the mainstream form of entertainment. Whether it's recycling old or unused footage of dead actors, or using visual effects to recreate dead performers or finish their incomplete work, the reactions from viewers tend to be charged. Rogue One remains a hotly-debated film in the Star Wars Saga - and the decision to recreate both Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin and Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia through CGI face-swapping is high on the list of reasons why.

Now, AI has made celebrity deep-fakes a feat almost anyone with a computer or smart device can pull off - which was a major concern for actors during the 2023 Hollywood Strikes. This case over Star Wars' use of Cusing's likeness - who owns it, how it's used - could end up being a pretty pivotal one for the future of movie-making.

Star Wars films like Rogue One can be streamed on Disney+.

Terry Crews Reveals the Impact Star Wars Has Had on Life and Career in Last Meals Clip (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/terry-crews-reveals-the-impact-star-wars-has-had-on-life-and-career-in-last-meals-clip-exclusive/ Tue, 10 Sep 2024 15:35:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar b1d6daf9-6bb3-4d04-96f7-d48df6e194b4

Mythical Chef Josh Scherer is back with more Last Meals, and in the brand new episode sits down with America's Got Talent host Terry Crews. Crews discusses a number of topics during the episode, but there is one topic especially close to his heart, and that just happens to be the ever evolving story in a galaxy far far away Star Wars. Star Wars means a lot to Crews on both a personal and professional level, as it was the movie that introduced him to the wonders of filmmaking but also held a much deeper meaning for him after the passing of his mother. Crews and Scherer get into all of that in the new episode of Last Meals, which is premiering today on Mythical Kitchen's YouTube channel, and we've got an exclusive clip for you to check out in the video below to get you started.

It All Started with Star Wars

Scherer asks Crews what movie had the strongest impression on his moral code as an adult, and for Crews, so much of that was formed from Star Wars. "You know what, Star Wars. Star Wars, because it was about evil, it was about good. I'll never forget, even with Empire Strikes Back, it was almost like finding the goodness in things that you wouldn't find...like Yoda was a joke at first. You thought Yoda was a cartoon character, you're like oh he's cute he's billy he's silly he's this, he was the wisest one," Crews said.

"When Yoda got in his power. When Luke's ship is is all bogged in the swamp and then Yoda sticks his three fingers out there and it raises up, I get emotional now dude. I get emotional about that cuz it's like look at his power, and you start to learn about being good and what you know, you didn't really die. I get choked up because it's like I truly believe in my heart that no one ever really dies, our Spirits are never dead. Our Spirits have always been here, so we just move to another state. Move to the next thing and it supplants all that fear and scary oh what's going on into a whole other thing for me," Crews said.

A Deeper Meaning

last-meals-terry-crews-1.jpg
(Photo: Last Meals/Mythical Kitchen)

"And again not like Star Wars is real, but it gave me a lesson and wait a minute we are here. When my mom passed away, I could feel her you know what I mean? I know she's proud of me I know she's looking and she's watching and she's in a better place, and she knows more more than ever now you know what I mean because all has been revealed to her and we're all going to eventually get there," Crews said. "So I don't fear moving to the next level, and I think Star Wars did a great job of just putting that Morality In a picture so that we can understand it."

"But Star Wars has always always been one of the major major influences, and it was the first movie that I ever got to see in a theater, well a drive-in theater, and it changed my life forever. It gave me, I knew I was going to be in entertainment forever the first time I saw Star Wars," Crews said.

What Is Last Meals?

From the minds behind Good Mythical Morning (the most-watched daily show on the Internet) comes Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals - a food-focused interview show. Everybody's thought about it at least once - If I were to die tomorrow, what's the LAST meal I want to eat? No matter how crazy, over-the-top, or extravagant, Last Meals host, Mythical Chef Josh Scherer, will make that culinary dream come true for the episode's guests as they ponder life, death, and how that connects to their meal. Previous guests include Tom Hanks, Post Malone, Emma Chamberlain, Padma Lakshmi, John Boyega, and Jason Kelce.

The new episode of Last Meals will air on Mythical Kitchen's YouTube channel on later today.

First Star Wars Outlaws Update Makes Stealth Missions Easier, Patch Notes Revealed https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-stealth-update-patch-notes/ Tue, 10 Sep 2024 14:24:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon bda3bbd8-c713-4347-b54e-a0f95cc9a54f

Star Wars Outlaws has now gotten its first title update just over a week after it released, and within those patch notes, Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment addressed one of the biggest topics of conversation since the game released: stealth. Stealth is a core part of Star Wars Outlaws just like it is in other Ubisoft games like the Far Cry and Assassin's Creed series, but many Star Wars Outlaws players felt that Kay was not able to navigate some scenarios successfully even when players were being quite careful.

Thankfully, Massive Entertainment seemed to agree as stealth should be a bit easier in Star Wars Outlaws now thanks to the latest update. The update overall contains "tweaks and improvement on some challenging stealth moments" with special consideration given to things like rolling around while trying to be stealthy, a tactic which didn't always work as expected when trying to avoid detection.

If you've got Star Wars Outlaws on more than one platform, you'll also be happy to hear that cross-progression has now been enabled courtesy of Ubisoft Connect. That and more included in the patch notes can be found below, and you can read our full review of Star Wars Outlaws here if you're still on the fence about playing.

Hollywood Mourns the Loss of James Earl Jones, "One of the World's Finest Actors" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/hollywood-mourns-the-loss-of-james-earl-jones/ Tue, 10 Sep 2024 03:30:00 +0000 Spencer Perry ecbf24d0-a8a6-4b5b-8e12-d3ed940e64d3

James Earl Jones died today at the age of 93 and the Oscar-nominated actor was immediately mourned by his friends, colleagues, and collaborators in Hollywood. Known for voicing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, as well as Mufasa in The Lion King, Jones's career in Hollywood began with one of the most celebrated movies of all time, Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. With decades of time spent on the stage and screen, Jones has earned accolades and fans all around the world. It didn't take long for those that new him for years to sound off on his departure.

Mark Hamill, actor, Star Wars, "One of the world's finest actors whose contributions to Star Wars were immeasurable. He'll be greatly missed. #RIP dad ?"

Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, "James Earl Jones is one of the most versatile and talented actors of our time, with an iconic body of work across film, stage and television. The menacing baritone he brought to Darth Vader will forever be beloved by fans and regarded as one of the great villainous performances in cinema. His commanding presence on screen, and warm personality off screen, will be greatly missed."

George Lucas, creator Star Wars, "James was an incredible actor, a most unique voice both in art and spirit. For nearly half a century he was Darth Vader, but the secret to it all is he was a beautiful human being. He gave depth, sincerity and meaning to all his roles, amongst the most important being a devoted husband to the late Ceci and dad to Flynn. James will be missed by so many of us...friends and fans alike."

Kevin Costner, star of Field of Dreams, "Just hearing the news of James Earl Jones's passing. That booming voice. That quiet strength. The kindness that he radiated. So much can be said about his legacy, so I'll just say how thankful I am that part of it includes Field of Dreams. If you've seen it, you know that this movie wouldn't be the same with anyone else in his role. Only he could bring that kind of magic to a movie about baseball and a corn field in Iowa. I'm grateful to have been a witness to him making that magic happen. Rest in peace, friend."

Rob Minkoff, co-director of The Lion King, "Just learned of the passing of the great James Earl Jones. I was blessed to get to work with him. His portrayal of Mufasa was perfection. What a powerful man and actor. Gone but will never be forgotten. Rest in power."

Wendell Pierce, "This man was the living embodiment of artistry, integrity, creativity, and dignity. James Earl Jones is the sole reason I became an actor. He stirred a vocation in me that gave voice to my unsung heart songs. By example, he led me on the exploration of my own personal humanity and the study of human behavior in others and the intangible, ever-present soul. He was a once in a generation talent that has left an enormous legacy in American culture."

Colman Domingo, "Thank you dear James Earl Jones for everything. A master of our craft. We stand on your shoulders. Rest now. You gave us your best."

Bob Iger, CEO The Walt Disney Company, "From the gentle wisdom of Mufasa to the menacing threat of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones gave voice to some of the greatest characters in cinema history. A celebrated stage actor with nearly 200 film and television credits to his name, the stories he brought to life with a uniquely commanding presence and a true richness of spirit have left an indelible mark on generations of audiences."

Our thoughts and prayers go out to James Earl Jones's friends and family during this time.

James Earl Jones, Acclaimed Performer & Darth Vader Voice Actor, Dies at 93 https://comicbook.com/movies/news/james-earl-jones-actor-darth-vader-voice-dies-93-obituary/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 22:14:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson b572c34f-d971-4528-a2e6-be4e9db67d4b

James Earl Jones, a legendary actor and EGOT winner known for his prolific appearances in movies and television, has passed away at the age of 93. The news was confirmed via Jones' representatives at Independent Artist Group, who revealed that he passed away on the morning of Monday, September 9th at his home in Dutchess County, NY. Jones' career included a number of iconic roles, including providing the voice for Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy and subsequent franchise spinoffs. He also voiced Mufasa in both the animated and live-action takes on The Lion King, and appeared in beloved projects such as Coming to America, The Sandlot, and Field of Dreams.

Born on January 17, 1931 in Arkabutla, Mississippi, Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan in 1955, balancing his dramatic studies with his time in the military. His first cinematic role was as Lt. Lothar Zogg in Stanley Kubrick's beloved 1964 comedy Dr. Strangelove. He earned his first Best Actor Oscar nomination in 1970 (then the second-ever nomination for an African-American actor), for his portrayal of real-life boxer Jack Johnson in The Great White Hope.

Jones' Star Wars tenure began with 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, voicing the role of Darth Vader while actor David Prowse portrayed the role within the costume. He went on to reprise his role in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and later in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and several animated spinoffs.

"When I first saw the dialogue that said, 'Luke, I am your father,' I said to myself, 'He's lying. I wonder how they are going to play that lie out?'" Jones said in a 2017 documentary called Star Wars: Empire of Dreams.

Jones' other filmography includes the Coming to America movies, Field of Dreams, Conan the Barbarian, The Hunt for Red October, and The Sandlot. He also is regarded to be among the first celebrity guests on Sesame Street, having appeared in short test films that were made to introduce children to the show's format. Over the course of his career he won three Tony Awards, two Emmy Awards for his work in Gabriel's Fire and Heat Wave, and an honorary Academy Award in 2011.

Star Wars Outlaws Developer Says They Are Fixing the Beginning of the Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-game-update/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 11:30:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 85a54063-3860-4811-8da6-e93e3d1565f7

A Star Wars Outlaws developer has said that the team working on the game, Massive Entertainment, is preparing to roll out some fixes that will improve, and may even fix, the beginning of the game. The open-world action adventure game has been out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S since August 30, giving Star Wars fans ample time to play the game and render verdicts. Similar to the reviews, consumers have had a mixed response to the Ubisoft game.

To this end, a common and fairly major criticism of the game is the beginning of the game. More specifically, players have taken umbrage with the difficulty spikes that are happening, particular at the beginning of the game, during some instant-fail stealth sections. And it appears Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment agrees that this is a problem because they are working on a fix. This fix will not include removing fail states completely though.

"So especially, I mean, you're probably thinking of one of the early missions in Mirogana, which is incredibly punishing," said creative director on the game Julian Gerighty. "And for me, that is a mistake, and this is something that we're going to work on improving. I don't think it means removing the fail state completely, but I do think there are millions of low hanging fruits where we can make it so much more enjoyable and understandable."

Gerighty continued: "We just don't want it to feel unfair. And today, I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, this wasn't our intention. This is more of something that crept in in the last week or so, and that we're correcting already for a patch that's coming out maybe in ten days."

How extensively this patch will address the stealth missions, remains unclear. In other words, it is unclear how sweeping these tweaks will be versus contained to the part of the game Gerighty is talking about. Whatever the case, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are aware of the problems with the game's stealth and are working on fixing these problems. Now it is just a matter of waiting to see if these tweaks prove effective.

Star Wars Unlimited's Xander Tabler Talks Twilight of the Republic, Clone Wars Faves, and New Keywords https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-unlimited-xander-tabler-twilight-of-the-republic-clone-wars-faves-new-keywords/ Sun, 08 Sep 2024 01:15:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 6f9049c1-91ef-4e16-b764-c3533e3b2901

Fantasy Flight Games hit the ground running with Star Wars Unlimited's second set Shadows of the Galaxy, and now that the set is out in the world it's time to get excited for the third set in the series. That would be the anticipated Twilight of the Republic, shifting the focus from the Outer Rim to the world of Clone Wars and the prequels and introducing new mechanics into the game while also building upon things established in the previous two sets. ComicBook had the chance to speak to Fantasy Flight Games Community Manager Xander Tabler about the new set and what it brings into play, as well as some of the new keywords and mechanics, and the how the new set and beyond will work with some of the previous keywords already in the mix.

Twilight of the Republic

(Photo: Fantasy Flight Games)

While Spark of Rebellion focused on the original trilogy and Shadows of the Galaxy focused on the more fringe elements of the franchise, Twilight of the Republic moves to the Clone Wars era, and that encompasses quite a bit of Star Wars lore. "I've been so excited to talk about Twilight Republic since, I remember seeing it in playtesting and what they were going to be doing with it, it's really exciting. So the set focuses very much on like the Clone Wars era. So you know, Episode 2, the Clone Wars show, Episode 3. It's going to have a lot of those prequel characters that you really know and love. Not all of them, obviously, but a lot of them are going to make an appearance, and it'll be really fun to see people's reaction to seeing some of these beloved characters in a card game," Tabler said.

New Leaders

star-wars-unlimited-ahsoka-tano-leader.jpg
(Photo: Fantasy Flight Games)

With the Clone Wars era, fans will get to bring some big time favorites into play, including Ahsoka and Assaj Ventress, who also bring with them some new mechanics. "And I think the keywords and the things that they're adding and the new mechanics for Set 3 really mesh well with that. We've got for the Heroes, like Ahsoka Tano, the leader, focus on coordinates. You want three or more units out at a time to do this, so it's all about working together. And if we have a bunch of us, we can do this thing. We can do it even better than before," Tabler said.

"You have, kind of on the Separatist side, we've shown what Assajj Ventress has, the Exploit keyword, which is new. Exploit has a number after it. If you defeat that many units, you get to bring down the cost of the unit you're playing by two for each unit you've defeated to do it," Tabler said. "So, Assajj has Exploit two, and she only costs four. So you could defeat two units, play her and play her for free. Which is really fun, it's sacrificing some of these droids and things to further your goals. And it's a really interesting dynamic between the two sides there. I think people will really enjoy the thematics of that.

And we've also announced that there's Clone Trooper tokens and Battle Droid Tokens, and Token Units is something we've been asked about from the very beginning. So finally, I'm glad that in set two we could add Smuggle cards that let's you play from resources and now we're playing Token Units, which is another thing people ask for. And you said we're kind of delivering on that promise of expanding and also moving towards what feels natural to players.

Staying Approachable

(Photo: Fantasy Flight Games)

One of the welcome additions to the game came in Set 2 with the Smuggle keyword, which allowed you to bring cards with that keyword out of your resource pool into pool for a higher cost. It opened up even more options during a given turn, and I asked if we would see more cards that built upon Smuggle specifically in Set 3.

"So around the idea of keywords, I can't say specifics about Set 3, but as a general idea of moving forward that some keywords will be floating in and out within sets and it'll be something that as it goes It's with a keyword that makes sense. We don't want a set to have every single keyword ever done forever. We want to make sure that it makes sense. It feels good and it's easily picked up by new players too," Tabler said.

"We've talked about this since launch of hey, We want this to be easy to learn but difficult to master, And if you start adding a million different things that you have to learn before you start that kind of amps that difficulty up. And so keeping things moving, obviously when you start doing Premiere, you can throw those cards from different sets together and that's when it really starts to shine, some of those keywords. But within each set, there's not always a guarantee on each keyword showing up," Tabler said.

Twilight of the Republic lands in stores on November 8th, 2024.

Star Wars: Diego Luna Reflects on Playing Cassian Andor For Almost a Decade https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-diego-luna-cassian-andor-decade/ Fri, 06 Sep 2024 02:53:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 0a888d6f-6494-4457-9006-756289f71f19

Star Wars: Andor has become one of the standout series of the franchise's Disney+ era, thanks to its shocking drama and engrossing approach to the galaxy far, far away. The live-action series is confirmed to be returning for a second and final season, which will take the journey of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) up to the events of his first appearance in the franchise, the 2016 standalone movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In an interview with IMDB at last month's D23 Expo, Luna spoke about the continued love that fans have for his portrayal of Cassian, and the way that the fervor from fans has only evolved over the ensuing years.

"I've received a lot of appreciation for the story we're telling. People are very enthusiastic," Luna revealed. "Through these years I've been part of something that matters to people, you know? And that is something very special, you know? You don't get that often. You don't get to be part of a project that matters so much to audiences... We worked really hard, almost three years of our lives to do one season. So yeah, the way it was received was very special to me."

What Is Season 2 of Star Wars: Andor About?

It has been confirmed that the sophomore season of Star Wars: Andor will chronicle years of Cassian's life right up to the events of Rogue One. K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) will both be reprising their Rogue One roles in the season as well.

"I think people watching Rogue One, after watching Season 2, are going to see a different film," Luna previously shared with Entertainment Weekly. "Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for [Alan Tudyk's K-2SO] to be there. It's going to make you witness the journey of Rogue One in a different way, I think. And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it'll be really cool."

Season 2 of Star Wars: Andor is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2025. If you haven't signed up for Disney+ yet, you can try it out here.

New LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Clip Released https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/lego-star-wars-rebuild-the-galaxy-special-clip-disney-plus/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 03:10:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 11436c2a-4493-44ee-b5b5-b2cabe3521b5

A brand new LEGO Star Wars special is on the way, and this one is turning the galaxy upside-down. LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is a four-part event that hits Disney+ on September 13th, and it puts some different spins on the beloved stories you know from Star Wars. For example, this LEGO special is finally bringing the Darth Jar Jar theory to the screen, with the affable Gungan taking up a new role as a Sith lord.

The special may not hit Disney+ for another 10 days, but the streamer is giving fans a sneak peek at the action in the form of a brand new clip. Check it out!

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy stars Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo as the young hopeful hero Sig Greebling. The cast also includes Tony Revolori, Bobby Moynihan, Marsai Martin, and Michael Cusack. Live-action Star Wars stars Ahmed Best and Mark Hamill will be reprising their roles as Luke Skywalker and Jar Jar Binks, respectively.

"It's hard to believe that it's been twenty-five years since the ground-breaking collaboration between Lucasfilm and The LEGO Group began," said executive producer James Waugh. "In that time, LEGO Star Wars has given our fans the unique power to unlock their imaginations and play with the galaxy's elements in any way they can conceive... and build. It's with that playful spirit in mind that we set out to 'Rebuild the Galaxy' like never before. Tapping into the comedic genius of Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, two of the most talented comedy writers I've had the fortune of working with, we've mixed and matched LEGO sets to snap together Imperial X-fighters, Rebel TIE-wings, and yes, even Darth Jar Jar. This four-piece special is a celebration of all things Star Wars, LEGO, and the incredible explorations that can only happen when these two amazing brands come together."

Showrunners and executive producers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit added, "The opportunity to work with LEGO and Lucasfilm to rebuild the galaxy has been a dream come true. We've been collecting LEGO Star Wars sets for twenty-five years, and we have approached this project with a fan's enthusiasm, crafting this story quite literally brick by brick. For new fans, this will be an exciting place to enter the world of LEGO Star Wars, and for lifelong fans, you're going to see some things that you never thought possible."

Star Wars Outlaws Actress Humberly González Hopes to Play Kay Vess in Live-Action https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-kay-vess-humberly-gonzalez-live-action/ Tue, 03 Sep 2024 22:49:00 +0000 Logan Moore 9c6c265a-e065-49cc-87b1-68ab191df8b1

Humberly Gonz?lez, the actress behind Kay Vess in the new video game Star Wars Outlaws, has aspirations to play the character in live-action. Compared to other Star Wars games of recent years, Outlaws strays away from focusing on the Jedi and instead places its attention on Vess, who is a smuggler navigating the seedy underbelly of a galaxy far, far away. And while Vess has only "officially" been part of Star Wars canon for roughly a week, Gonz?lez hopes it will be the first of many appearances for the character.

Speaking to Variety, Gonz?lez opened up about her desire to see Vess appear in a live-action Star Wars project. Gonz?lez said that if such an opportunity ever came about, she would take it without question. As for how a live-action take on Vess might differ from what's seen in Outlaws, Gonz?lez said that there are still a number of advantages that film and TV have over video games when it comes to expressing a character's emotions.

"I think it would be incredible to see Kay Vess in live-action, because one thing that we don't see in animation is those micro-expressions of a real human being on screen," Gonz?lez said. "And it would be incredible for me to experience what it would be like to be literally in her costume, in her appearance, her likeness, in the landscape, to see her interact with real characters, the creatures. It would be a dream come true. I certainly would not say no to the opportunity. And I think there's so many opportunities to see Kay Vess and other aspects of established roles in Star Wars, because we're in the original trilogy, and there's so many opportunities for her to exist or show up in different places. So it would be amazing, and I think fans would love it."

If Gonz?lez were to get her wish granted, it would likely have to be as a result of Star Wars Outlaws becoming a major success. To this point, it's not known how Star Wars Outlaws has been selling, although the game's critical reception has been rather mixed. Assuming that Outlaws underperforms Ubisoft's own expectations, it's unlikely that Vess will be back in the spotlight once again, but perhaps those at Disney have larger plans for the character that remain unknown.

Star Wars Outlaws is available now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Marvel Legends Crystal and Lockjaw 2-Pack

However, it's not all about reissues for Hasbro this week. Look for the Marvel Legends Inhumans Crystal and Lockjaw 2-pack, which is expected to launch this Thursday, September 5th at 10am PT / 1pm ET here at Entertainment Earth. If you're unfamiliar, Crystal is the sister of Medusa, the queen of the Inhumans. A princess in her own right, she has the ability to manipulate the four elements - fire, water, earth, and air. She's been a member of various Marvel superhero teams, including The Fantastic 4 and The Avengers. Lockjaw is her massive but loveable bulldog companion, who has proved invaluable thanks to his teleportation ability.

Will The Fantastic Four: First Steps Finally Get Things Right?

Matt Shakman is directing The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025. Shakman has previously said that the reboot will be much from previous attempts to bring Marvel's first family to life on the big screen,

"It's different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific," Shakman said. "I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can't. But I think it's going to be unlike anything you've seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you've seen before."

Fantastic Four: First Steps will star Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman; Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm/The Thing; and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm/Human Torch. Julia Garner will appear in the film as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, with Ralph Ineson as Galactus. Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne will appear in as-yet-unannounced roles.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Star Teases Season 2 Filming Start https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ahsoka-season-2-filming-start-production-natasha-liu-bordizzo/ Mon, 02 Sep 2024 21:11:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 01a4c4a4-5292-46b8-bcd2-9a3465519f44

A Season 2 of Star Wars: Ahsoka has already been confirmed by Disney, but based on the crowded schedule of Star Wars projects that Lucasfilm is working on, star of the series Natasha Liu Bordizzo recently teased that production on a second season is nearly a year away. At that rate, we likely shouldn't even expect that season to premiere until 2026, barring any other obstacles that such a production faces. The new season is being developed by Dave Filoni, who is also tapped to direct a movie that is set to serve as a crossover between all series taking place during The New Republic, yet he has previously confirmed that a Season 2 of Ahsoka takes priority over his movie.

While appearing at DragonCon, per @mando3updates on Twitter, Bordizzo claimed that production wouldn't start until Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian & Grogu wraps filming, which would put it at a potential pre-summer 2024 production start.

Favreau might be directing the movie, but Filoni himself has confirmed that he's also helping develop the project, so it's entirely possible that Filoni won't even finish writing Season 2 of Ahsoka until sometime next year. Luckily, Filoni previously confirmed that he's begun working on the sophomore season.

"Because I've been writing [Ahsoka Season 2], things have clicked and I have a much better idea about where things are going to go," Filoni explained to the Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this year. "I will say, I have an opening I really like quite a bit, I'm very excited about it for that picture. I'm excited about the potential of just doing it ... Right now, my focus is clearly on [Ahsoka] as well as the rest of the galaxy and how it's spinning."

Since the season finale of Ahsoka and the dangling narrative threads related to Bordizzo's Sabine Wren, as well as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger, fans have wondered what could be in store for these characters. Based on the timeline of a Season 2 of the series potentially moving forward ahead of summer 2024, it's likely that fans will be given an answer to those questions in a Season 2 as opposed to Filoni's planned The New Republic film.

Stay tuned for updates on Season 2 of Star Wars: Ahsoka.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Star Manny Jacinto Says Season 2 Is Now a Life Goal https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-acolyte-season-2-manny-jacinto-life-goal-qimir/ Mon, 02 Sep 2024 00:47:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely c8e6e208-93c1-4469-a737-db2acc570d33

As of right now, it doesn't appear as though Star Wars: The Acolyte will be getting a second season, following Disney and Lucasfilm's surprising decision to ax the Leslye Headland series. Fans have voiced their frustration with the decision, as have those involved with the series, especially since the of the first season clearly set up another chapter of the story. Star Amandla Stenberg recently took to social media to address the frustrating situation, and now co-star Manny Jacinto is saying that continuing the series has become one of his life goals.

Jacinto appeared at Dragon Con over the weekend, and he was asked during a panel about his various life and career goals. When asked about something he still wants to do "before you leave this mortal coil," Jacinto simply smiled and said into the microphone, "The Acolyte Season 2."

While Stenberg was the clear star of The Acolyte, playing both of its lead characters, Jacinto was the clear breakout in terms of delivering a character that fans came to crave. His Qimir started out as a quiet supporting character that seemingly had ties to the mysterious Sith lord looming over the whole series. Around halfway through Season 1, though, the villain was unmasked and it turned out to be none other than Qimir, who made his presence felt by killing multiple main characters with some of the most unique lightsaber fighting we've seen in some time.

Once Qimir was unmasked, he became an instant favorite amongst fans, and Jacinto has voiced just how genuinely proud he was of what he and Headland were able to create with that character. Given how much momentum Qimir had after The Acolyte's Season 1 finale, it feels devastating that we may never see him appear in the world of live-action Star Wars storytelling again.

Set during The High Republic, Star Wars: The Acolyte delivers an investigation into a mysterious string of crimes, which pits a Jedi master against his former apprentice in a race to uncover the truth. The more that the pair learn about the situation, the darker their journey becomes, as they confront things that darker than either of them could have imagined.

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on June 4th.

Star Wars: New Lightsaber Toy Shows off Retractable Blade https://comicbook.com/movies/news/star-wars-lightsaber-power-saber-toy-retractable-blade-explained/ Sat, 31 Aug 2024 20:19:00 +0000 Aaron Perine e8054a21-68fd-4364-82c1-e8bc59981acf

Star Wars fans should be on the lookout for a brand-new lightsaber toy with features you haven't seen on an official release. Goliath has debuted it's Power Saber line of glowing plastic swords. What makes these different from an "official" lightsaber? Well, for one they auto retract and extend. The visual of a kids lightsaber being able to deploy and go back down into the base by just pushing a button is wild. But, with the near-omnipresent popularity of Star Wars, why weren't these scooped up for a brand partnership?

Over at The Verge, they did some digging and came up with a rough answer. Power Saber inventor, Yair Shilo was developing the idea with Hasbro and then the deal fell through. However, he was able to secure his patent and team with Goliath on a release. Hasbro has no hard feelings about the situation and offered an official statement. Hasbro said, "We greatly value our partnerships with inventors who bring us their ideas for toys and games. For a variety of reasons, we were unable to move forward with this particular concept."

For those interested, here's a description of the toy: "Power Saber is the world's first fully auto extending & retracting saber. With motion based SFX, flash on clash & in an in-hilt LED, this saber delivers the most realistic experience. Extend the saber to 35''/90cm and get ready for battle! After battle, the Power Saber can be displayed on the included stand or carried around with the belt clip. This saber is suitable for kids ages 6 and up and recommended for any fan. Available in red & green, choose your side! Requires 4 x AA batteries (not included)."

So many stories to tell.

Disney revealed a cool power retracting lightsaber a few years ago. But, it's mostly lived on as a prototype. Hasbro continues to help produce official Star Wars and Lucasfilm toys. They're looking towards the future now.

"We're proud to deepen our close working relationship and collaborate with the Disney team to bring innovative and engaging play experiences to kids, fans, and families inspired by some of the world's most iconic entertainment brands," Eric Nyman, Chief Consumer Officer, Hasbro previously wrote. "In addition to a slate of new collectibles, figures, role play gear, and games for Star Wars and Marvel, it's an honor to bring Indiana Jones back to Hasbro and help introduce the beloved franchise to a new generation of fans."

Star Wars Outlaws Players Slam Major Issue With the Game: "This Will Make People Stop Playing" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-game-reddit/ Sat, 31 Aug 2024 18:57:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 7d45009d-768b-4fa8-a191-d07ea241c321

Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment is out on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X to a 76 on Metacritic, which represents a very lukewarm reception to the open-world Star Wars game. And this doesn't bode well for Ubisoft, who no doubt spent a very pretty penny between licensing and the game's development. How well the game is selling, we don't know, but those who have purchased the game have found all types of issues with it. For example, the save system in the game is not very generous, and as a result, has been frustrating players.

Over on the Star Wars Outlaws Reddit page, one of the most popular posts highlights the game's save system and everything wrong with it. To this end, the post aptly points out the constant and annoying restrictions on manual saves and how little the game auto saves. As a result, there can be stretches that last 30 minutes where a save isn't made, which means when you die, you are going very far back and losing a ton of progress.

"The amount of progress you lose when you die or get caught is a problem," reads the title of the post. "I just spent half an hour clearing out an imperial base and alerted a guard at the end and got into a shoot out where I died and then the game spawns you back fully outside the base, so I lost like half an hour and just then again lost like 15 mins. Happened a few times before in smaller gang areas."

The post continues: "This will hands down make people stop playing the game, I'm not sure how the actual progress checking works, but I hacked computers, doors and did a bunch of stuff, surely the developers could autosave somewhere in there or even allow the player to save themselves. It's very frustrating."

Of course, if this was an isolated take it wouldn't be that noteworthy but the number of votes up reveal it is not an isolated take. Further, the comments echo the sentiment, driving home that the game needs to allow players to manually save more.

"Yeah autosave in this game really sucks and 95% of the time you can't even save manually," reads one of the top comments. "Just letting folks save manually whenever would address majority of the stealth concerns. The amount of repeating you have to do if you are caught is definitely unpleasant," adds another popular comment.

Thankfully for Ubisoft, this is a pretty easy problem to address. However, right now it is unclear if it is aware of the issue, let alone planning on addressing it. If it does comment on the matter in any capacity, we will be sure to update the post accordingly. In the meantime, anyone on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S should be wary of this problem.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Prequel Series Preview Released https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-prequel-series-preview-released/ Sat, 31 Aug 2024 18:21:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 6d954f0d-a738-445f-bf8f-2cdaa77bad0c

Star Wars: The Acolyte may not be returning for another season, but fans of the short-lived series will still get to experience the characters in other mediums. Yord and Jecki are getting their own prequel novels, and Kelnacca has a comic on the way. Star Wars: The Acolyte - Kelnacca #1 is a one-shot written by Cavan Scott with art by Marika Cresta. The story will "bridge the gap between The High Republic novels and comics to The Acolyte itself." The comic is hitting the stands next week, and a new preview includes a closer look at the story.

"It's been so exciting to draw a line from The Acolyte back to The High Republic era we've been building in comics, books, audio and animation," Scott previously told io9. "Kelnacca is the perfect character to bridge the gap between the time of Leslye Headland's spectacular series to the age of Starlight Beacon, the threat of Marchion Ro, and the marauding Nihil. In this comic, we will learn more about one of the most intriguing aspects of Kelnacca's design: the meaning behind those mysterious tattoos. Along the way we'll see the struggle of a Padawan and a master who is stoic, wise, and, ultimately, a true practitioner of Light and Life."

Amandla Stenberg Reacts To The Acolyte's Cancellation:

Amandla Stenberg and Manny Jacinto in The Acolyte finale.

- Lucasfilm)

Last week, it was revealed that Disney+ and Lucasfilm had opted not to renew Star Wars: The Acolyte for a second season. While the show had many vocal supporters, there was also a large group of Star Wars "fans" who wanted it to fail. In fact, some even started review-bombing the wrong Acolyte on Rotten Tomatoes. This week, The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg took to social media to react to the show's cancellation and address the "bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred, and hateful language" that was directed towards the cast.

"Hello, I thought I would get on here, and just speak candidly. I hate doing this. I hate doing this, but I'm gonna do it. I honestly, I don't use social media very much anymore, and I'm so happy about that, but there are many folks out there that I want to acknowledge and I want to show appreciation and love and support for so that's why I'm hopping on here to talk about this, which is that our show, our Star Wars show, has been canceled. And I'm gonna say, I'm really transparent, and say that it's not a huge shock for me," Stenberg said. "Of course, I live in the bubble of my own reality, but for those who aren't aware, there has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced, when it was still just a concept, no one had even seen it. That's when we started experiencing a rampage of, I would say, hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred, and hateful language towards us. This really affected me when I first got the job, because it's just not something even though I anticipated it happening, it's not something you can fully understand what it feels like until it's happening to you."

The Acolyte: Star Wars Actor Ahmed Best Shares Support For Amandla Stenberg https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/the-acolyte-star-wars-actor-ahmed-best-shares-support-for-amandla-stenberg/ Thu, 29 Aug 2024 21:54:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 854609c1-10a5-4c49-8079-25af7846a05f

Unfortunately, this type of behavior isn't new within the Star Wars community.

Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, has opened up about the emotional toll the fan backlash had on him after the first prequel film was released, and even contemplating suicide due to the harassment he received. Today, Best took to Instagram to share his support for Stenberg.

"I will always stand in solidarity for artists who give 110% to their work and art. Keep shining queen @amandlastenberg," Best wrote. You can view his post below:

Ahmed Best Talks The "Strong Political Undertones" in Star Wars:

ComicBook had the chance to chat with Best at the grand opening of Bricks and Minifigs in Pasadena, California earlier this year. Best spoke about The Phantom Menace rerelease and also explained why the political sides of Star Wars are so important.

"All of these movies have very strong political undertones," Best began when asked if he had a message for fans on May 4th. "So Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Sith were all done under the George W. Bush era. And even so much so that Anakin in Sith has a line, 'You're either with us or against us.' And that's directly from what happened during the George Bush era."

"And there is a reason why there is a light and a dark and a journey in between them," he continued. "And that is a direct reflection on who we are as human beings. And I think as we watch these movies, we have to also remember that what we are watching is not just 'a galaxy far, far away, a long time ago,' but it is a reflection of how history repeats itself. And we have the ability to create a history that we can either see as a dark side of history or a light side of history."

"So this isn't just movies that we watch that we love. This is a mythology that we can learn from," Best explained. "And as we move forward, and the more of these things that are being made, we can look at them and we can make them as a reflection of who we are, but we can also make them as a reflection of who we want to be. And if there is anything that this May the 4th day should bring to us all, it is the idea that we can actually build these universes and be these people that we want to be, and make the feeling of the Force something real, and something that could move us to be better as human beings."

The Acolyte is now streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku Reveals All 12 Covers https://comicbook.com/comics/news/star-wars-the-battle-of-jakku-12-covers-revealed-marvel-comics/ Thu, 29 Aug 2024 17:19:00 +0000 Timothy Adams c8a7fbfb-02ac-4dd7-abab-281531888641

Marvel is giving fans a new look at the next era of its Star Wars comics. The publisher has been telling Star Wars stories ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, allowing its creators to tell stories in a galaxy far, far away. The Star Wars comics have mostly remained in the original trilogy timeline, with some tales told in the High Republic era as well. The next iteration of Star Wars publishing will fill the gaps between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, told across three intertwined limited series all tied to the Battle of Jakku. Now, fans can take a look at all 12 covers for the crossover.

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku will be told across Insurgency Rising, Republic Under Siege, and Last Stand. The covers feature some of the central characters, with some fans can probably guest and a few surprises tossed in. We see Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Mon Mothma, and Lando representing the Rebellion, with a mysterious Imperial soldier representing the scrambling Empire. Jakku is the location that fans met Rey for the first time in The Force Awakens, and is also where the Empire made its desperate last stand and their secret base was discovered by the Rebellion. The Battle of Jakku is written by Alex Segura (Star Wars: Poe Dameron - Free Fall, Edge of Spider-Verse) and drawn by the art team of Leonard Kirk, Stefano Raffaele, Jethro Morales, and Luke Ross.

"It's an unbelievable honor to be able to tell this lost story of Star Wars history, alongside so many amazing artists, in the pages of the three BATTLE OF JAKKU limited series," Segura said. "Our story will be epic in scope - involving all the major characters you love, plus some new, exciting additions to the mythos. We'll not only give readers a front-row seat to the final battle of the Galactic Civil War - we'll reframe the aftermath of the Battle of Endor and introduce a new, menacing threat that will keep our heroes guessing. The goal for all of us is to turn up the volume and make sure this adventure stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the other stories of the era. As the Empire collapses, a new darkness arises!"

What is Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku about?

Starring core characters like Luke and Leia as well as new heroes and villains who were instrumental during this thrilling period, the three Battle of Jakku series will bridge the gap between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy like never before, revealing key insights behind the aftermath of the Battle of Endor and the Empire's demise, including the Emperor's secret contingency plans; and introduce the shocking power-hungry threats that emerged during this time of uncertainty!

You can find the covers by Phil Noto, Taurin Clarke, and E.M. Gist below. It all kicks off with Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Insurgency Rising #1 on sale October 2nd.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Star Amandla Stenberg Breaks Silence on Cancellation "It's Not a Huge Shock for Me" https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-star-amandla-stenberg-breaks-silence-on-cancellation-its-not-a-huge-shock-for-me/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 22:55:00 +0000 Nicole Drum b561e74b-c784-4648-ba24-85d92de2bb0f

Earlier this month, Star Wars: The Acolyte was cancelled after just one season, marking the end of the first live action series set in the Star Wars franchise's High Republic era. Now, series star Amandla Stenberg is opening up about their reaction to the series' cancellation and their experience. In a new message shared on their Instagram Story, Stenberg said that the show's cancellation was "not a huge shock" for them and then went on to talk about their experience with "a rampage of vitriol" that the cast faced from the show was first announced.

They continued, "On that topic, I just have to say it has been an incredible honor and dream for me to be in this universe. Even though, of course, I'm very sad about the show being canceled and I'm sad about us not being able to give people who are invested into it more, because.... I still just feel a lot of levity and joy around the fact that it that I got to experience it, and that people loved it, and that people were so responsive. I poured through a lot of different iterations of fan art and ship art and fan theories and things that were just so beautiful and filled my heart with joy. I just want to let those people know out there who supported us in that way and supported us vocally, despite and in the face of all of the vitriol that we received and the kind of the targeted attack, I would say we received by the alt-right, just that you are deeply loved and appreciated. It made this job all the worthwhile for me, and it made all of the challenging elements of it completely worthwhile for me. That plus my love of sci-fi and fantasy and being able to be a part of the legacy of something that I so deeply value, and something that means so much to me and I've looked up to for so long."

Stenberg also went on to thank Lucasfilm as well as series creator Leslye Headland and everyone who watched The Acolyte before addressing the divisive reactions to the series.

"I also just want to say thank you to Lucasfilm, for just being a f-king awesome team. They were so wonderful to work with. Everybody that I worked with in Lucasfilm, particularly Rayne Roberts, my producer. Who just had such vision and hope and such a mission for what we were going to continue bringing into the Star Wars universe," Stenberg continued. "And it was a really beautiful, energizing, life changing experience to be a part of. And I have to thank Leslye Headland, who just, I just f-king love that b-ch. Excuse my French. She's just one of the best people in the world. I think she's so incredibly talented and unique and kind, and I'll love her forever, and I will love this experience with her forever. But at the end of the day, I also just want to thank everybody who watched it. Thank you for being so loving and supportive and excited and nerdy and awesome, and I'll continue to process this for a long time.

"Maybe the last thing I want to say on the subject is that we all exist in the context of all in which we live (laughs) But I'm serious. it's not lost on me how the way that these events have unfolded is also due to the hyper divisiveness of the time that we live in. That is driven, I would say at this point, by echo chambers of thought and algorithms that reinforce our biases. And I think that applies to everybody, but I think that in a particular sect of people, it manifests as a lot of fear for what is changing, a lot of hatred for anything that is other. And I would challenge us all and challenge myself to continue questioning what it is that I digest and think critically about what shapes it. And let's vote. Y'all, let's vote. Let's vote. I think that's all I have to say."

Stenberg's Instagram Story is not the first time that they have addressed some of the backlash they faced with Star Wars: The Acolyte. Earlier this year, Stenberg released a music video responding to the matter, sharing that they had worked on the video for 72 hours to come up with lyrics and choreography to fire back at critics, which included a review-bomb campaign when the series was released.

What Is Star Wars: The Acolyte About?

Marvel's Star Wars: Inquisitors Finale Teases Darth Vader vs. Jedi Survivor of Order 66 https://comicbook.com/comics/news/marvel-star-wars-inquisitors-issue-4-darth-vader-jedi-order-66-tensu-run/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 02:00:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo d54b53cc-05a2-4eec-b6d9-30e770e81c89

"Tensu Run must die." With those words, Darth Vader orders the Grand Inquisitor to hunt down and kill the elusive Jedi Knight Tensu Run in Marvel's Star Wars: Inquisitors #1, the first in a four-issue miniseries by writer Rodney Barnes (Star Wars: Ahsoka) and artist Ramon Rosanas (Star Wars: Age of Resistance). The new comic -- set during the Reign of the Empire, between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope -- will conclude with a final issue in October, and it promises a showdown between the Dark Lord of the Sith and an all-new Jedi of legend.

Marvel Comics has released Nick Bradshaw's cover for Star Wars: Inquisitors #4, which sees Tensu Run stand alone against Darth Vader and the Jedi-killers Grand Inquisitor, the Fifth Brother, the Seventh Sister, and the Ninth Sister.

star-wars-inquisitors-4-tensu-run.jpg

Like Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Cal Kestis, Tensu Run survived the execution of Order 66: Emperor Palpatine's plot to purge the galaxy of the Jedi. Now his Inquisitorius -- the Force-wielding dark side disciples seen on Star Wars Rebels, the live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and the Star Wars Jedi video games -- are scouring the galaxy to find and destroy Tensu Run, a symbol of hope who seeks to rebuild the Jedi Order.

A FEW ISSUES AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...

Tensu Run "has become an idea, which is far more difficult to kill," the Grand Inquisitor reports of the Jedi who was building a refuge among the Diagu people on the peaceful planet Targyon. "Order 66 has eliminated virtually all of the Jedi," says Vader. "They now reside in the low places, wallowing in the dark crevices of the galaxy. Their only hope is hope itself. That one can rise from the ashes, offering faith -- a guiding light." And that is why Tensu Run must die.

Vader recalls the legend of Tensu Run was born at the conquest of Regis Kor, an Imperial outpost and black site until it was liberated by the Jedi. Meanwhile, on the agricultural planet Zayron in the galaxy's Outer Rim territories, fellow Jedi in hiding Uhron and Pan Delesec tell Tensu: "The fate of the Jedi rests in your hands." While he seeks to rebuild their fallen Order, Tensu says, "We are but a moment. The Jedi will last forever."

His master, Jedi Master Elan, believes the Force chose Tensu Run to lead the Jedi "to the dawn of a new day." After the sloth-like cargo salvager Pii-Lor informs the Grand Inquisitor that the Jedi docked his ship aboard The Voyager Dawn, Tensu Run feels a disturbance in the Force as the Grand Inquisitor slaughters Master Elan and his brethren.

star-wars-tensu-run-darth-vader-the-inquisitors.jpg

From Fortress Vader on Mustafar, Vader dispatches the Fifth Brother to do what the Grand Inquisitor failed to do: kill Tensu Run. "The Empire casts a shadow over the galaxy. That shadow is dependent upon the suppression of the Jedi. For they represent hope, the most dangerous of sentiments," Vader tells him.

The Jedi goes on the offense to confront the Fifth Brother on Gerrigon, an abandoned and overrun colony where a civil war ended with a massacre of most of the planet's inhabitants after the Republic and Jedi Order failed to help. If Tensu's purpose is to spark hope and rebellion, the Fifth Brother tells him, "The purpose of my existence is to fulfill the promise of Order 66. Nothing more."

The Dogma of the Jedi is "rooted in faith," and that is what he represents, Tensu says. Should he fail, "The Jedi will endure." Tensu Run then defeats the Fifth Brother in a lightsaber battle, but refuses the request to end his existence. The Jedi spares his life with the words: "I need you to tell your master that Tensu Run still lives."

Star Wars: Inquisitors #4 goes on sale October 2nd from Marvel Comics.

Star Wars: Sigourney Weaver Confirms Role in The Mandalorian & Grogu https://comicbook.com/movies/news/star-wars-sigourney-weaver-confirms-role-mandalorian-grogu/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 01:55:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 420f2482-cfe6-41e2-b8f5-a3e9a7dae44e

The Star Wars universe is set to head back to the big screen in 2026 with The Mandalorian and Grogu, a new film continuing the events of Disney+ smash hit series The Mandalorian. Footage from the film was screened to attendees at this year's D23 Expo, but a lot of details surrounding the project have remained a mystery. We now know one new aspect of The Mandalorian and Grogu, with Oscar-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver confirming that she has a role in the project in a recent interview with Deadline. It is still unknown at this point what role Weaver will be portraying.

"I'm playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu," Weaver revealed. "I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I'm filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year."

What Is The Mandalorian and Grogu About?

Directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Kathleen Kennedy, The Mandalorian and Grogu will follow the ongoing adventures of Din Djarin / The Mandalorian (Pascal) and his pint-sized ward, Grogu.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," Favreau shared in a statement when the film was first announcced. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

"Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen," Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, added.

Will The Mandalorian Get a Season 4?

In addition to The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, there has been a lot of speculation about whether or not the flagship The Mandalorian Disney+ series will be returning for another season. Filoni has hinted at both projects being in the works concurrently, but no details have been confirmed since.

"There's so much spinning in the galaxy right now. You know me better than to commit to any one thing, no mind trick works on me," Filoni shared with Entertainment Tonight when asked about Season 4 of The Mandalorian. "I'm excited about what we're doing right now, but the movie, I think, is gonna be great. With Jon at the helm, it's gonna be fantastic, and he's so well-studied in Star Wars now, so he's got a great shorthand and I love collaborating with him. Just excited to share the future of what we're doing."

The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026.

Star Wars Outlaws Metacritic Score Revealed, And Reviews Are All Over the Place https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-review-metacritic-score/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 12:51:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 9e94a85d-4dda-4495-9e4a-578a032448b6

Star Wars Outlaws from developer Massive Entertainment and publisher Ubisoft is set to release this week via PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Before this, reviews for the Star Wars game have begun to be published, which in turn has revealed an early Metacritic score for the title. And so far, it is not looking great for Ubisoft.

Star Wars Outlaws is a big AAA Star Wars game that no doubt cost Ubisoft lots of money. The licensing alone is quite expensive. As a result, Ubisoft is going to need to ship quite a few copies to breakeven. To achieve this, strong reviews would have gone a long way, but right now the games various Metacritic scores are in the 70s.

At the moment of writing this, the Xbox Series X|S version is sitting at a 76, while the PC version and PS5 version are both at 77. 77 is close to a strong score, but as more reviews are posted online, it is likely to dip, or at least this is what typically happens.

What is also noteworthy is how all over the place reviews are. There are some near perfect scores and then some five out of tens. Why there is such a wide range, we don't know, but this is increasingly common with video game reviews.

About the Game + Trailer

"Experience the first-ever open-world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi," reads an official blurb about the game." Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy's crime syndicates as you join the galaxy's most wanted. If you're willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity."

The Crow Reboot Review

This is what ComicBook Nation host Kofi Outlaw had to say in his 2-star review of The Crow:

Under the direction of Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and the genuine effort made by stars Bill Skarsg?rd and FKA Twigs, The Crow isn't a total failure - but it is a messy mismatch of high-art aspirations and bloody, brutal, B-movie action-horror. It's both vibrantly alive with creative spark and passion - and a listless, muddled attempt at telling a cinematic story.

...It's not impossible that, despite its flaws, The Crow will follow the path of the original and grow into a cult hit in years to come. If nothing else, it's one of the biggest showcases yet of Bill Skarsg?rd's potential as a leading man (and not just the lineup of odd creatures and/or creeps he's played). But, after more than a decade of trying to get this reboot off the ground - and all the creative talent that's been attached to it along the way - it's almost amusing that middling effort is the end result.
