It ain't no lie, Fortnite has just added an epic new emote for Marvel fans. On Monday, Fortnite's official media accounts announced that a "Bye Bye Bye" Emote is officially available in the game's Item Shop. The dance, which was first created for *NSYNC's 2000 hit song "Bye Bye Bye", recently reached a whole new audience thanks to its use in this summer's Deadpool & Wolverine. The emote is currently available in the Fortnite Item Shop for 500 V-bucks.

More specifically, the song was utilized in Deadpool & Wolverine's opening credits sequence, as Wade Wilson / Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) violently murdered a swath of Time Variance Authority agents with the Adamantium corpse of Logan Howlett / Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The needle drop helped the song have a resurgence on social media, as well as charting on the Billboard and Spotify charts.

Marvel's War Machine, Gwenpool, and the Wakandan royal Shuri join Captain Jones and Peelverine as first on the scene to defend against Doctor Doom and his forces. They'll need all the help they can get!

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

Space Marine 2 Director Already Has Ideas for Space Marine 3 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/space-marine-3-2-warhammer-40k-sequel-ideas/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 22:43:00 +0000 Logan Moore 4085b984-6edd-4a5b-b732-ea55b2b247ca

Despite having just released Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the team at Saber Interactive already has ideas for a potential Space Marine 3. By all accounts, Space Marine 2 has been one of the biggest hits of 2024 both critically and commercially. Longtime Warhammer fans have been lavishing heaps of praise upon the throwback third-person shooter and it has ranked near the top of Steam's sales chart since the moment it launched. As such, the future of the Space Marine sub-series looks brighter than ever before and Saber very much intends to capitalize on it.

In a conversation with IGN, Saber Interactive boss Tim Willits confirmed that there is already talk of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3. Willits said that the director of Space Marine 2, Dmitry Grigorenko, has brought forth some ideas for a new story in the series. However, what's currently unknown is if this story would be told in an eventual Space Marine 3 or if it would instead be as DLC for Space Marine 2.

"Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel," Willits said. "We're literally just catching our breath. This is two weeks out. We just need to get the dust to settle. But I can confidently say that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future. It's too big of a success! I know that's an obvious thing to say, but hopefully we'll be working on Space Marine content for a long time."

Again, given the major success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, it's not shocking in the slightest that Saber is going to now double down on the franchise. With that said, though, expectations for a potential Space Marine 3 are now going to be far higher, which Willits says can be "dangerous." After seeing how well fans have responded to SM2 and Saber itself having now found success with the game, Willits thinks that this success is what will drive the company in the years ahead.

"With Space Marine 2, it really does change everything," Willits added. "As employees, and I know this firsthand, when you have a big hit and you have that internet kind of popularity, there's more passion and there's more responsibility for the quality that you do. And you look at yourself through a different lens. And sometimes that success lens can be a little dangerous because then you get so paranoid about making sure everything is great that you overstress about things, but it's that success lens that really drives amazing games into the future. So I do believe that through the success lens that we have, we will just make far better products in the future."

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.

Xbox Reportedly Spends $1 Billion Per Year on Game Pass Deals https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/xbox-game-pass-gamepass-cost-report/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 21:42:00 +0000 Logan Moore 49788018-1412-408f-ac12-b194de44be88

A surprising new report has indicated that Microsoft spends roughly $1 billion per year on bringing third-party titles to Xbox Game Pass. Despite being one of Xbox's biggest avenues to bring in money for Microsoft, Game Pass is also a service that the company has needed to continuously pour funds into. Previously, details regarding the total amount that Microsoft actually spends on Game Pass have been shrouded in mystery, but that's no longer the case.

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft currently "spends $1 billion a year getting third-party games on the subscription service." This total is said to be based on not only the "flat fees of millions of dollars" that Microsoft pays various studios and publishers, but also a "portion of subscription revenue" that is then paid out. Further details on Microsoft's process of determining how much each publisher should earn for being part of Game Pass wasn't revealed, but more high-profile, AAA titles are surely the ones that cost the most to join the service.

While this might seem like an asinine amount of money (which it is), Xbox Game Pass typically makes back this much relatively quickly. Based on previous information that has been made public, there are a little more than 30 million Game Pass subscribers at the moment. Assuming that each subscriber then pays an average of $15 or so, it would suggest that Microsoft makes back its investment in Game Pass over a period of two or three months.

Still, with video game development costs quickly rising, there's a good chance that Microsoft will have to begin offering even more to various publishers to add their titles to Xbox Game Pass. As a result, this $1 billion amount will almost certainly pale in comparison a few years from now to the total that Microsoft invests in the service today. For all of these reasons and more, this is likely why Microsoft chose to raise the price of Game Pass this month while also introducing new tiers of the subscription platform.

Ed Boon Says NetherRealm's Next Game Has Been in Development for 3 Years (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/mortal-kombat-injustice-ed-boon-netherrealm-next-game/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 20:39:00 +0000 Logan Moore d4205c26-3dbf-4e32-9e9b-5f765184d8e6

NetherRealm Studios boss Ed Boon says that the developer has been working on its next game after Mortal Kombat 1 to some degree for three years. As of this week, Year 2 of MK1 is beginning, notably with the release of the story expansion Khaos Reigns. After this, NetherRealm still has a handful of DLC fighters for MK1 that will roll out and include Ghostface, the T-1000 Terminator, and Conan the Barbarian. Whether or not this will be the final major content drop for MK1 isn't yet known, but further down the line, NetherRealm already knows what it will do next.

In an interview with ComicBook, Boon told us that NetherRealm decided three years ago on its next title. Given the nature of game development, Boon said that NetherRealm has to make decisions far in advance of what its future project will end up being. This combined with the need to keep various members of the studio busy at all times resulted in NetherRealm choosing its follow-up to Mortal Kombat 1 before the game even launched.

"I've said this before but we start planning the next game long before we're done with the previous game," Boon said. "There is so much prep work, research, and planning. It is absolutely not the case that when we finish the game we go, 'Okay, what're we going to do next?' There's a lot of people who need to be working on something. We've known what our next game was going to be three years ago and we've been working on it in some capacity ever since."

Outside of this confirmation, Boon didn't provide any additional details on the nature of this project. Prior to the launch of MK1, though, Boon revealed that it was his hope to eventually "get back to the Injustice games." Following Mortal Kombat 11, many fans believed that Injustice 3 would be the next project NetherRealm would create. Instead, it ended up being Mortal Kombat 1, which has led to calls for Injustice 3 growing even louder.

Even if Injustice 3 is the game that NetherRealm opts to create next, we likely won't learn about its existence until 2025, 2026, or even beyond. To that end, the studio's latest output, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, releases tomorrow, September 24th, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Sonic Central Event Will Reveal Plans "Through 2025" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/sonic-the-hedgehog-central-sega-plans-through-2025/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 20:12:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 40d98f58-4192-4957-b1e8-cf3c2b339429

Sonic the Hedgehog has been enjoying quite the renaissance over the last few years, in large part due to the live-action movies. The success of those films has resulted in a lot more interest in Sega's blue blur, resulting in new cartoons, merchandise, and a whole lot more. Fans will learn more about Sega's future plans for the character in a new Sonic Central stream, which will take place on Tuesday, September 24th. The event will begin at 9 a.m. PT, and will offer "a sneak peek of some of our upcoming projects, partnerships, and events happening through 2025."

A graphic revealing the event can be found below. Those interested in watching the event live can do so on Twitch at the link right here, or on Youtube right here.

Hopefully the showcase will have a lot for Sonic fans to enjoy! It's a safe bet that we'll see Sonic x Shadow Generations in some capacity. The game is set to be released on October 25th, and there have been rumors about a fourth playable character; tomorrow's showcase would seem like a great place to announce that! We could also learn more about the game's animated tie-in, Sonic x Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings. As of this writing, the three-part special does not have a release date.

It's also possible we could get some kind of news connected to Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Paramount and Sega are clearly ramping up the marketing for the movie, and there are still a lot of things we don't know about it. December 20th is still a few months away, so there's a lot of time for us to get more details, but tomorrow's showcase might be a good place for some new information, or maybe even a clip from the film.

Those are just some possibilities we could see, but at this point, it's pretty much anyone's guess! Unfortunately, Sega has offered no information about how long the stream will last, so there's really no telling how meaty this one will be. Thankfully, with the show less than 24 hours out, we don't have to wait much longer to find out!

Are you planning to watch this week's Sonic Central event? What are you hoping to see during the stream? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Dead Rising Players Unhappy After Remaster Removes/Censors Sexual Content and More https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dead-rising-deluxe-remaster-censored-changes/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 19:26:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer b1d730b1-ebe3-4b9b-bf41-63d19d6fb79d The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster -- a remaster of the 2006 classic from Capcom -- released last week via PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. And for the most part, the remaster is just a straight-forward update of the game that brings it closer to modernity and further away from the jank of the Xbox 360-era of gaming. Emphasis on "for the most part." While the vast majority of the original content has been untouched, there are a few parts of the game that have gone through a modern filter. In the process, some of these parts have been tweaked or even removed.

The most prominent examples of this include removing the exposed underwear of some female characters, replacing Larry Chiang, changing Cheryl's dress to make it less revealing, removing the erotica genre, and removing the "sexiest shot" scene.

As you would expect, these changes have received some negative attention and push back from parts of the Internet. That said, the changes, or at least some of them, aren't very surprising. We've now seen quite a few remasters and remakes of games from a different era tone down or outright remove various content, usually of the more lewd and sexual variety.

The video below doesn't contain all of the changes, but it highlights the most prominent. There are more though, including several dialogue changes.

"Man, they really did a number on this remaster. What a terrible tragedy to remaster, and just chop-up and strip-out whatever someone didn't like. It's fine to remaster it, but the intent is to keep the material the same," writes on fan unhappy with the changes. "The erotic photo shoot was never meant to be disrespectful to women, it was to show how sleazy Kent was on top of everything else," adds another fan.

Capcom hasn't said anything about these various changes, and it is unlikely it is going to budge on this position of silence. If it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, for more coverage on it, click here.

Original Resident Evil 3 Being Re-Released This Week https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/resident-evil-3-re-release-this-week-pc-gog/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 19:09:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 45db22ec-f59e-405f-bc23-19855adae0e9

While the remake of Resident Evil 3 can be found on just about every single current platform, the same can't be said for the version released back in 1999. Thankfully, that will be rectified this week, as Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is coming to PC via GOG on Wednesday, September 25th. The game will be offered for $9.99, or it can be obtained in a $24.99 bundle that also contains the first two games in the series. For those that never played the original Resident Evil trilogy, this would seem like the perfect opportunity to experience the roots of the franchise.

For those that never played the game, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis puts players in the role of Jill Valentine, following her appearance in the first Resident Evil. The game marked the introduction of Nemesis, one of the most memorable villains to appear in the Resident Evil franchise. Despite the numbering, the game actually starts prior to the events in Resident Evil 2, but time passes, and eventually the two games start to take place concurrently. Resident Evil 3 isn't held in quite the same regard as some other entries in the series, but there's a lot to like about it, especially for those that enjoyed the first two games.

Unfortunately, there's still no word from Capcom about whether these games might eventually make their way to consoles, as well. Over the last few years, Capcom has increasingly made its back catalog easier to obtain through various compilations. We've seen it happen with Mega Man, Phoenix Wright, and even the company's various fighting games. For some reason, the original Resident Evil games have not gotten the same treatment, despite frequent requests from fans.

The arrival of the first three Resident Evil games on GOG was announced back in June. The three games are based on the Windows 95 versions, as opposed to those released on PlayStation, Dreamcast, and N64. From everything revealed thus far, it seems GOG was involved with the porting process. If that is the case, it might mean that there's a timed exclusivity agreement in place, or that there are no plans to release the original trilogy elsewhere. Hopefully that's not the case!

Do you plan on downloading Resident Evil 3? Are you happy about the game's return? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

New Bethesda Game May Tease Two Settings for The Elder Scrolls 6 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/the-elder-scrolls-6-bethesda-setting/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:26:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer bd8dcb00-7b5b-42ee-a479-5d064975cdc2

A new Bethesda game may tease the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6. It has been six years since Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI. Since then, it has shown nothing and said virtually nothing about the game. The main reason for this though was because until last summer Bethesda Game Studios was busy with Starfield. Now that Starfield is out, it has turned its attention to The Elder Scrolls 6, which means we should be hearing about it soon. Until then, it seems Bethesda may be doing some teasing.

This year, Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls: Castles, a free-to-play mobile game not too dissimilar to Fallout Shelter. In it, you rule over your own castle, among other things. For your castle, there are two options: a Redguard style and what looks like a Breton style. This is interesting because previous teases and rumors have suggested the game will be set in Hammerfell and possibly High Rock as well.

To date, the most prominent tease was in an early Starfield trailer,. In it, a character can be seen flying in a ship, and etched into the side of the ship is a little drawing. In the trailer, it just looks like chipped paint, but if you zoom in it is a rough map of High Rock, Iliac Bay, and Hammerfell.

Whether The Elder Scrolls: Castle is making a similar tease, or future-proofing for the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 or whether this is nothing, it is all adding up. At this point, The Elder Scrolls fans on Reddit and elsewhere are convinced the game is heading to Hammerfell, and probably High Rock as well.

Elder Scrolls Castles hinting at ES6?
by u/No-Source-7974 in TESVI

For those unfamiliar with Hammerfell and High Rock, the former is the home of the Redguard. A western province, it boarders Skyrim to the northeast, Cyrodiil to the east and southeast, and High Rock to the north. It features many biomes, but it is best known for the very rigid and desolate Alik'r Desert. Meanwhile, High Rock is the home of the Bretons and only borders Hammerfell. Geographically, it is far less diverse, mostly consisting of forests and countrysides, as well as lots of coastline.

At this point, based on everything so far, it will be a complete surprise if The Elder Scrolls 6 is not set in Hammerfell. The question is whether this will be the only location or if other provinces, such as High Rock, will be introduced. The Elder Scrolls 6: Castles may just be suggesting it is the latter.

New Xbox Report Claims Microsoft Is Developing a Steam Deck Competitor https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/xbox-handheld-steam-deck-report/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:21:00 +0000 Logan Moore 6e5f8257-69b4-40bd-b1fa-872ba4ccaf3d

It continues to sound as though Microsoft is going to get into the handheld space with a new Xbox device. Over the past year, rumors have continued to grow suggesting that an Xbox handheld is in the works at Microsoft. This is something that Xbox boss Phil Spencer seems to have even alluded to on a couple of different occasions. Now, new reporting has come about to further corroborate these past rumors and might give us an idea of when the Xbox hardware could launch.

Coming from Windows Central, the publication reports that Xbox is internally developing "its own take on the Steam Deck." Further details on the handheld are still limited, but this Steam Deck comparison is one that lines up with what those at Microsoft itself have previously said. Specifically, Spencer stated earlier in 2024 that it would be important for any potential handheld tied to Xbox to be able to play games natively. While cloud streaming is something that Xbox has invested heavily in over the years, it seems this technology won't be at the center of this much-theorized handheld.

Beyond this, the report goes on to state that 2026 could be the year in which the Xbox handheld would launch. The reason for this is twofold as 2026 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Xbox brand. Microsoft itself even recently teased that it's "building plans for the 25th anniversary of Halo and Xbox" for 2026. Whether or not part of this celebration would result in the release of a new handheld isn't known for certain, but it would make sense.

The other reason that 2026 is being eyed in this manner is because Microsoft is choosing to skip out on releasing a mid-generation upgrade of the Xbox Series X. While the previous generation saw Microsoft release the Xbox One X as a way of competing with the PS4 Pro, that won't be the case this time around as Sony is gearing up to let loose the PS5 Pro. As a result, Microsoft seems to have altered its timelines for new hardware releases, which further puts a spotlight on 2026.

Perhaps the biggest question tied to a potential Xbox handheld, though, would be whether or not it can change Microsoft's hardware sales. Based on what we know, the Xbox Series X and S have failed to meet the expectations of Microsoft, which is one reason why Xbox seems to now be releasing more of its games on competing platforms. Whether or not a dedicated Xbox handheld could do drastically change Microsoft's fortune as a hardware company isn't known, but it'll be worth monitoring in the months and years ahead.

PlayStation State of Play for September 2024 Finally Announced https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-state-of-play-september-2024-date/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 16:40:00 +0000 Logan Moore f7a4ba78-33bb-4fd5-bd52-2772a1d842a6

At last, Sony has confirmed that it will be holding a new PlayStation State of Play broadcast to close out September 2024. For over a month, rumors and reports have circled suggesting that the next State of Play would end up transpiring at some point in September. After all, Sony has held a State of Play or PlayStation Showcase event in this month for five years in a row, which made it seem likely to happen once again. Now, after this constant period of speculation, Sony has provided official details on the live stream.

As expected, this new State of Play will transpire tomorrow, September 24th, and will go live at 6pm ET/3pm PT. As always, the event will be broadcast across YouTube and Twitch in both English and Japanese. This time around, Sony says it plans to highlight 20 games in total that span PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 platforms. In total, this State of Play is said to clock in for a little more than 30 minutes. Other than this, further details weren't provided.

Leading up to this State of Play, PlayStation has had a couple of leaks that might point to impending reveals. Just last week, the ESRB revealed a new remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn for PS5, which seems likely to be unveiled at this event. Additionally, it has been rumored that PlayStation is also working on a remaster of Days Gone. Whether or not one or both of these games end up being shown off during tomorrow's event isn't known.

Beyond this, there's a good chance that there could be a major focus on games from Japanese studios during this State of Play. The reason for this is primarily because the Tokyo Game Show 2024 is set to transpire at the end of this week. As a result, it would make sense for various developers that are going to be present at the convention to show off their games with new trailers or gameplay footage ahead of time.

As always, be sure to stay tuned to our coverage here on ComicBook as we'll bring you all of the latest news from this State of Play once it transpires.

Super Mario RPG Lowest Price Ever in New Sale https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/super-mario-rpg-sale-nintendo-switch/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 16:21:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer ff9d8731-ab15-4dc0-a17c-a2f0bcdffbbe

The Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch is the lowest price it ever has been thanks to a new sale. A remake of the 1996 SNES classic of the same name, Super Mario RPG was released back in November of last year by developer ArtePiazza and Nintendo. Upon release, the remake got an 84 on Metacritic, a very respectable score. How well it sold, we don't know, but as Nintendo fans will know, Nintendo-made games rarely go on sale and when they do the discounts are rarely notable.

Right now though, for a limited time -- or more specifically, as supplies last -- retailer Woot has dropped the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED game by 47%, the biggest discount it has ever received. As a result, it is only $31.99 for a limited time.

This deal is specifically for a brand-new physical copy of the game, which ships via Amazon. This also means shipping is free for those with an Amazon Prime subscription.

"Mario, Bowser, and Peach partner up to repair the wish-granting Star Road in this approachable role-playing adventure," reads an official blurb about the game for those unfamiliar with it. "Team up with an oddball group of heroes to save Star Road and stop the troublemaking Smithy Gang. This colorful RPG has updated graphics and cinematics that add even more charm to the unexpected alliance between Mario, Bowser, Peach, and original characters Mallow and Geno. Enter (or revisit) this world of eccentric allies and offbeat enemies in an RPG for everyone."

"Super Mario RPG has aged fantastically well, with great gameplay, a terrific story, and some excellent characterization," reads a snippet of our official review of the game. "Developer ArtePiazza has added just enough quality of life improvements to refine the experience, while still maintaining the elements that made it a classic in the first place. For those that have never played it before, Super Mario RPG is a very easy recommendation, but those that have played through it a number of times over the last 27 years might find that there isn't enough new content to rationalize the $60."

New Capcom Survey Mentions Dino Crisis, Okami, and Other Dead Franchises https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/capcom-survey-dino-crisis-okami-dead-franchises-deluxe-remaster/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 15:41:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 6fe398bd-61fd-4eb4-bfcf-49e850e5dd08

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster marked the return of a Capcom franchise long thought dead. The game's release over the weekend was cause for celebration for fans, not just because the series came back, but also because a lot of care was put into the remaster. It seems Capcom is looking for other franchises to bring back, as the company has released a survey asking fans about the game, and their decisions about whether to buy it. Interestingly enough, the survey also has a question asking participants about other potential "deluxe remasters." Unsurprisingly, Resident Evil is on the list, but Capcom also mentions multiple franchises that could be considered dead or dormant.

The survey (which can be found right here) lists the following franchises: Dino Crisis, Lost Planet, Devil May Cry, Power Stone, Resident Evil, Onimusha, Darkstalkers, and Okami. Obviously, this does not guarantee that one or any of these franchises will get a similar treatment, but it's exciting to see nonetheless. Capcom has clearly been making an effort to bring back some of its older material lately; after years of being unavailable on modern platforms, the two Power Stone games will be included in Capcom Fighting Collection 2 when it releases in 2025.

The presence of Dino Crisis on this list is hardly surprising! While the series hasn't gotten a new game in over two decades, it has been brought up many times in recent surveys. Earlier this year, the Capcom Super Elections allowed fans around the world to vote on several different topics connected to the publisher. One of the questions asked fans about franchises in need of a new series entry. Dino Crisis managed to get a total of 80,769 votes, awarding it the top spot.

Hopefully Capcom will listen to the results of these surveys, and bring back more missing franchises! Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter might be the company's bread and butter, but Capcom has a lot more beyond those franchises. The company has a rich history spanning decades, and might have one of the best franchise stables out of any gaming company. It's time for Capcom to start dusting more of these franchises off and introducing them to new audiences!

Are you still hoping to see a new Dino Crisis? Which of Capcom's old franchises do you want to see get a deluxe remaster? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Mysterious Nintendo Device Leaks Ahead of Switch 2 Reveal https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/nintendo-switch-2-device-leak/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 15:23:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 82bf5f27-e49c-45de-8906-ddb888080987

The first Nintendo Switch 2 peripheral has possibly leaked. If it's not a Nintendo Switch 2 peripheral, then it's possible it is for a completely different piece of hardware. The speculation is the result of Nintendo filing a new wireless device to the Federal Communications Commissions, aka the FCC. And the model number of the device is CLO-001. This doesn't reveal what it is, but it does seem to rule out this being for the Nintendo Switch 2, as "001" implies this is for a brand new product. For example, the model number for the Switch is HAC-001.

Further, if this was for the Nintendo Switch 2, it would likely be tagged as "wireless game console," but it is not. It is simply tagged as "wireless device." The associated documents also reveal it does not make use of a battery, but rather only functions when plugged in. To this end, it makes use of a USB-C charger, or at least it can make use of a USB-C charger. The documents also show there is no body-worn element involved.

Other details derived from the document reveal there is no bluetooth technology or 5GHz or 6GHz Wi-Fi radio. What there is though is 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor. This doesn't reveal much, though some are speculating the latter is to track movement.

Right now, it is hard to determine what this is, if anything of consequence at all. Some have pointed out it could be for something involving the Super Nintendo World theme parks, especially with the potential motion sensing technology. It could also be something related to the Switch 2, but there is nothing here that concretely points to the Switch 2.

At the moment of publishing, Nintendo has not commented on any of this. We don't suspect this to change as it rarely comments on rumors or speculation. If it bucks expectation and does though, or if any more details surface, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. New Black Myth: Wukong Update Makes Extensive Changes, Patch Notes Revealed https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/black-myth-wukong-update-patch-notes-ps5-steam/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 15:18:00 +0000 Logan Moore 00d4dbf0-c85d-4f62-9c63-4a1485073989

Marvel Rivals Is Adding a Surprising Version of Psylocke https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/marvel-rivals-psylocke-playable-character-ps5-xbox/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 14:40:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps ad13bcb3-7cee-4bf8-8702-4b1f60b8011f

Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games has revealed Psylocke as a new playable character. The reveal took place on the Marvel Rivals discord over the weekend, following a trivia event. In an interesting twist, this version of the character is not the longtime X-Men team member Betsy Braddock, or even the current version Kwannon. Instead, this version is Sai, an alternate universe take on Psylocke that was first introduced in Demon Days: X-Men. That version was created by Peach Momoko, and the writer/artist's influence can be seen in the brief glimpse provided so far.

An image of Psylocke's in-game design can be found below.

So far, reception to this Psylocke design has been quite positive, with a lot of fans sharing their enthusiasm on social media. As of this writing, NetEase has not offered much else in the way of details regarding Psylocke, or how she'll play in the game. Hopefully that means we'll get a gameplay trailer sometime in the near future, outlining more details. The one thing we do know is that Sai will be voiced in the game by Alpha Takahashi. Following a tease from the Marvel Rivals X/Twitter account, Takahashi wrote "guess who's joining the Marvel Universe." The voice actor has previously had credits in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield, and Killer Instinct.

Psylocke has a long history in video games, appearing as a playable character in titles like Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. While those versions were specifically based on the Betsy Braddock version of the character, it makes sense for Sai to show up in Marvel Rivals. After all, the multiverse plays a role in the game's narrative, and we've already seen some alternate versions of characters confirmed, including Peni Parker. Given the convoluted nature of Psylocke's backstory, it actually makes a lot more sense to go with this specific take on the character. It will be interesting to see if this leads to more interest in Demon Days, and if it results in this version of Psylocke appearing in more media!

Are you planning to check out Marvel Rivals when it releases later this year? How do you feel about this version of Psylocke showing up in the game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Reveals Awesome Feature Cut From the Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/the-legend-of-zelda-echoes-of-wisdom-dungeons/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 14:38:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer a85cdfca-020f-4afd-98a3-3d8ca8bb870b

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of the Wisdom had a major feature -- that sounds awesome -- cut from the game during development. That said, in its ashes the "echoes" feature was born. For those unfamiliar with the upcoming Legend of Zelda game, one of its main mechanics is the ability to create" echoes" using the Tri Rod. These echoes are imitations of things found in the environment that can be used in the environment whenever needed. For example, you can make a bridge using old beds or recreate monsters to help you in battle.

Before this feature was in the game though, Nintendo was experimenting with letting Nintendo Switch users create their own dungeons. Ultimately, this feature was cut and morphed into echoes because the development team thought the latter was better.

"We were exploring a few different ways to play the game in parallel. In one approach, Link could copy and paste various objects, such as doors and candlesticks, to create original dungeons. During this exploration phase, this idea was called an 'edit dungeon' because players could create their own The Legend of Zelda gameplay," said Satoshi Terada, a director at Grezzo, the developer on the game.

Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma added: "They showed it to me and told me to give it a try. As I played, I started thinking that while it's fun to create your own dungeon and let other people play it, it's also not so bad to place items that can be copied and pasted in the game field, and create gameplay where they can be used to fight enemies. That was the beginning of gameplay using 'echoes'. The gameplay was shifted from creating dungeons up until then to using copied-and-pasted items as tools to further your own adventure."

Anomua continued, revealing the dungeon feature was in the works for a year before it was scrapped and changed into the echoes feature.

"Everyone else was developing the game with dungeon creation in mind, but I was right next to them thinking of something different. But there's a reason it took a year to upend the tea table. After all, you can't really see the potential for ideas to develop into solid gameplay until you can verify features and their feel, so I wanted them to try making it first. I felt that the 'edit dungeon' feature they showed me had significant potential to be developed into a new way of playing The Legend of Zelda games if the gameplay was changed to use "echoes" instead. So I thought it would be good to expand in that direction and could be even more interesting that way."

The full interview can be found on Nintendo, but from the sounds of it, this dungeon editor feature could be revisited in the future in a different game. If this happens, it will likely be a in a non-mainline release, like Echoes of Wisdom.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Gets Update From Developer https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-kotor-remake-update/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 14:00:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 6bac2ad1-d75d-47ec-9e62-5faba89dcf99

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has a new update, but it is a brief one that is unlikely to satiate the need for Star Wars fans to know more about the game. What it does confirm is the project is still alive, something many have begun to doubt. For those that may have forgotten, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced back on September 9, 2021 for the PS5 and PC. At the time, it was in development at Aspyr Media.

In August of 2022, it was then reported the game had shifted to a new developer. More specifically, Saber Interactive replaced Aspyr Media. According to Embracer Group, the parent company of both, this shift was done to "ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title." At the time, it noted it did not expect the hand off to delay the game.

Since then, there is been no meaningful update on the game. And we still don't have that, but we do have an update. Again, the update doesn't reveal anything of note, but it does confirm the project is still alive.

The update specifically comes from Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits, who relayed word that the team is "focused on development," and will share more "when the time is right."

"Right now, we are focused on development. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right," said Willits while speaking to IGN.

Unfortunately, not only is this update brief, but there is no word when a proper update will come. If the game is still with PlayStation, as in a PS5 console exclusive, then it will presumably come during a PlayStation State of Play. To this end, a new State of Play is rumored to happen soon, but it is unlikely this game will be present given the timelines of Saber Interactive's other projects. It could though. It could also rear its head at The Game Awards this December. If we were betting on it though, we wouldn't bet on seeing this game anytime this year.

Sonic the Hedgehog Team Chaotix Spin-Off Reportedly in the Works https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/sonic-the-hedgehog-team-chaotix-spin-off/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 13:20:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer a7056577-7d8a-4958-b9ba-9e12817b2b9b

According to a new rumor, Paramount is planning a Team Chaotix spin-off in the future. The group were supposedly set to debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but were cut at some point late in development for unknown reasons. Whatever the case, the plan remains to introduce them in an upcoming film, and after that, give the group of characters their own spin-off.

Unfortunately, this is about the extent of the rumor, which comes the way of well-known movie insider Daniel Richtman, a source who has proven reliable on countless occasions in the past, but who has also been off the mark in the past as well. In other words, take this information with a grain of salt.

Not only are a lot of specific details missing here, but even if everything is accurate everything that is here is also subject to change. The rumor itself suggests Team Chaotix was poised to debut in the second movie, but obviously that changed. There is nothing stopping these plans, assuming they are true, from changing as well.

At the moment of publishing, Paramount has not commented on this rumor nor the speculation it has created. We don't suspect this will change for a handful of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

For those unfamiliar with Team Chaotix -- sometimes simply referred to as Chaotix -- it is a group comprised of Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee, all who come together to make a detectives-for-hire force. This force is called the Chaotix Detective Agency.

They have appearances or cameos in the following games: Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Sonic Rivals 2, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (mentioned), Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, Sonic Colors (Nintendo DS), Sonic Generations (console/PC), Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Sonic Runners, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Sonic Runners Adventure, Sonic Forces, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (cameo), Team Sonic Racing, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and Sonic X Shadow Generations.

New Resident Evil Movie Rumored to be in the Works from Barbarian Director https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/resident-evil-movie-rumor-barbarian-zach-cregger/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 13:09:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 114ab2ac-fae7-4207-ae76-9b0c05cb1817

Barbarian director Zach Cregger could be in talks to helm a new Resident Evil film. According to reporting from The InSneider, Cregger turned down an offer to direct a reboot of Clue, and is now in talks about Resident Evil, instead. As with any rumor, readers should take this one with a grain of salt, as nothing has been confirmed, and movie plans are constantly changing. That said, Barbarian had great plot twists, a dark mystery, and a disgusting creature with a sympathetic backstory. All of these elements have been staples of the Resident Evil games, so Cregger would seem like a great fit!

There have been seven Resident Evil movies released over the years, with the first six existing in one continuity. The seventh was 2021's Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. The Johannes Roberts reboot stuck a lot more closely to the source material, but reception was fairly mixed. Welcome to Raccoon City was filmed in Sudbury, Ontario, and a sequel to the movie seemed to be in the works in that same location. In 2023, the city's official website stated that the production company Raccoon HG Film Productions had received $2 million in funds from the provincial government to film a movie called "Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles."

More than a year later, Sony has not announced that film, and it remains to be seen how this might factor into plans for a Resident Evil movie helmed by Cregger. It's possible we could see another Resident Evil reboot, or Cregger could pick up elements from the last film. Johannes Roberts had expressed an interest in making a sequel, but it's possible he could be busy with his shark horror movie, The Red Triangle.

Since making its debut in 1996, Resident Evil has become one of the most beloved horror franchises in all of gaming. Despite this, the series has never gotten an adaptation that felt accurate to the games, while also offering something truly scary for viewers. A Resident Evil movie with the director of Barbarian attached would seem like a step in the right direction, but first we'll have to see if this rumor actually pans out.

Would you like to see Zach Cregger direct a Resident Evil movie? Do you think he can get it right? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

PlayStation Users Can Pay $10,000 For Someone to "Attempt to Buy" PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/ps5-pro-30th-anniversary-edition-pre-order-buy-ebay/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 12:44:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 5a38e5b0-72c9-4040-9fd1-c97f8c1d05bc

Last week, Sony announced the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, which included a wide range of limited-quantity, limited-edition PS5 consoles and accessories featuring designs that evoke the design of original PlayStation console, the PS1. The premium item in this collection is the PlayStation 5 Pro Console - 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle, which features a PS5 Pro with this PS1 style. It will be released on November 21 and be limited to 12,300 units.

Sony has not officially revealed a price-point for the special PS5 Pro, nor any of the other products in the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection line. This weekend prices did leak, but only for some of the products in the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection. The PS5 Pro bundle was not included in these leaked items. Whatever the case, whatever the cost, it is going to be next to impossible to buy this limited edition PS5 Pro due to it being limited to 12,300 units, some of which will no doubt be given away to free to press and influencers.

With normal demand for the PS5 Pro, PlayStation nostalgics, and scalpers we expect this limited-edition to PS5 Pro to sell out instantly, within a minute. This probably means server crashes, website glitches, and lots of angry PlayStation fans. To this end, one opportunistic eBay user pushed a listing offering to "attempt to buy" one of these consoles. For this service, which comes with no guarantee, all you need to do is fork over $10,000.

Pretty quickly, the listing was taken down, likely due to eBay's strict policy on early sales. Whatever the case, it could be a tease of the dark times ahead, where scalpers gobble up stock and sell in the aftermarket at exorbitant prices. The mark up is unlikely to be $10,000, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it at least 5x the normal price, as even the regular PS5 was demanding 2x the price in the aftermarket when it was initially released and very hard to obtain.

GTA 6 Rumor Reveals Downgrade From Red Dead Redemption 2 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/gta-6-grand-theft-auto-vi-red-dead-redemption-2-rdr2-downgrade/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 11:52:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 791ec695-ac0c-407f-b26f-b7bc5b6b3d5d

A new GTA 6 rumor reveals a downgrade from Red Dead Redemption 2. The release of Grand Theft Auto VI from Rockstar Games is not only the most anticipated video game release of all time, but the most anticipated release in entertainment history. With so much unprecedented hype comes unprecedented expectations and pressures. To this end, anyone expecting GTA 6 to be the biggest, endless game ever released may want to dial back said expectations. While the game is shaping up to be the most ambitious release to date, its campaign is actually not even going to be the longest from Rockstar Games, if a new rumor is to be believed.

The rumor comes the way of popular YouTuber Legacy Killa HD, who recently took to social media platform X to reveal that the main story of the game is actually shorter than Red Dead Redemption 2. Unfortunately, the YouTuber does not reveal how much shorter.

For those that don't know: the main story -- not including side content -- takes 50 hours to beat in Red Dead Redemption 2, which is very long for just a main story. In fact, this is 18 hours longer than the main story of GTA 5, which is about 32 hours to beat. It is even much longer than the first Red Dead Redemption game, which only had a main story of about 18 hours. Again, Legacy Killa HD doesn't provide specifics, but it sounds like GTA 6 will be more in-line with GTA 5 than Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of campaign length.

Where players lose countless hours playing GTA games though is in the side content, which there is apparently a ton of. To this end, the YouTuber describes the game as "massive."

"The game is massive, full of a s**T load of side content. Lot of countryside & towns. Main story is shorter than Red Dead 2, one central theme from a few sources is criminals figuring things out. Family struggles. Sounded like a more grounded story to me but there's still a lot of the usual insanity in missions. Heard some are inspired by the Fast & Furious movies, like there's supposedly something like the below vault chase scene from Fast 5."

Whether any of this is true, only time will tell. Right now, there is no way to verify this information and it is unlikely Rockstar Games is going to budge from its no comment policy and say anything about any of this. If it does though, we will update the story accordingly.

New Batman Game Reportedly in the Works at Rocksteady, Could Be PS5/PS6 Exclusive https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/batman-arkham-game-rocksteady-studios-playstation-sony-ps5-ps6-exclusive/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 11:14:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer d0a4104b-f282-41ae-a8a6-52fabb8facbc

According to a new report, UK team Rocksteady Studios is working on a new a Batman game that could end up being an exclusive for PS5 or PS6, depending on when it releases. We know via job listings that Rocksteady Studios began work on a new game this summer after flopping hard earlier in the year with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Many assumed the Batman: Arkham studio would get back to its bread and butter -- aka Batman -- with its next game. This has not been confirmed, but this is what a new rumor has suggested.

The rumor comes the way of Nick Baker of Xbox Era over on social media platform X. In the past, Baker has proven reliable with numerous leaks and accurate rumors, however, he has also been off the mark on occasion. Whether this will be an example of the former or the latter, remains to be seen. In the meantime, there aren't many details.

All that Baker notes is that he has heard Rocksteady Studios is back to making Batman and that he thinks "Sony are trying to moneyhat it." For those unfamiliar with the term, moneyhatting refers to the act of using financial incentives or bribes to gain the upper hand typically on the competition.

Baker makes no note of exclusivity, but it is unclear what else Sony would be throwing money around for other than some type of timed exclusivity, or even permanent exclusivity, involving the PS5 or PS6 or both depending on when this game ends up releasing. It could be for something more boring like marketing rights or some deal involving PS Plus, but it wouldn't be the first time Sony threw large amounts of money at a developer for timed/permanent exclusivity on a game.

All of that said, remember to take everything here with a grain of salt like any rumor. Further, even if this rumor is accurate, it is subject to change that could render it inaccurate over time. Assuming this rumor is accurate though, don't expect to see this game for at least several years. Last time Rocksteady Studios made a game -- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League -- nine years passed before said game was released. Unless something goes wrong again, its next project should not take this long, but it will at least be three to five years even if everything goes smoothly.

At the moment of publishing, none of the implicated parties -- Rocksteady Studios, WB Games, nor PlayStation -- have commented on this rumor in any capacity. We don't expect this to change for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

Popular PlayStation RPG Only $2.99 for a Limited Time After 90% Discount https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-ps4-ps5-rpg-sale/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 10:47:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 5c277c46-87f9-4265-a258-1afe4f88b575

A popular and best-selling RPG on the PS4 and PS5 is only $2.99 for a limited time thanks to a massive discount over on the PlayStation Store. The RPG in question hails from 2018, a year PlayStation gamers on PS4 were treated to the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, Far Cry 5, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, A Way Out, Celeste, Dead Cells, Shadow of the Colossus, and much more. It was also a decent year for RPG fans on PS4 between the likes of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the latter of which is the aforementioned $2.99 game on the PlayStation Store thanks to a 90% discount.

This deal -- which is only live on the PlayStation Store until September 26 -- marks the game at the lowest price point it ever has been. Meanwhile, the deal comes at a perfect time as its sequel is set to release early next year on February 11, though it won't be on PS4, only PS5. The first game is available on both consoles though.

Developed by Czech studio Warhorse Studios, and published by Deep Silver, the discounted RPG has sold six million units as of earlier this year, a very strong return for a game made on its budget and that was a debut title for the studio. Meanwhile, Kingdom Come: Deliverance boasts a 76 on Metacritic, though based on its cult-like following and its user reviews, it seems to have resonated with consumers far more than critics. In fact, many can be found swearing that is one of the best and most immersive RPGs of all time.

"You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family," reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store. "Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!"

New PlayStation Rumor Could Point to the Existence of a PSP, PS Vita Successor https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-psp-ps-vita-handheld-ps5-ps6-rumor/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 00:53:00 +0000 Logan Moore ce4430f6-8836-4686-a3b8-6b86ef5f03b9

A new rumor has some PlayStation fans believing that a long-awaited handheld successor to the PSP and PS Vita could be on the way. When it comes to Sony's current plans on the hardware front, all eyes are on the PS5 Pro, which is slated to launch in November. Further down the line, the inevitable PlayStation 6 is also expected to be released and seems poised to be backward compatible. And while details for the PS6 and anything else that Sony might be working on are currently hazy, we now know that two platforms of some sort seem to be in development.

Coming by way of leaker KeplerL2 on NeoGaf, it has been said that Sony currently has two SoCs (system-on-a-chip) in the works. For those unaware of what this means, it suggests that Sony is creating two pieces of hardware that are different from one another in some manner. Presumably, one of these two SoCs would be assigned to the PlayStation 6, but the other is much more nebulous. One option could be a second version of the PS6 that would be weaker in power, similar to Microsoft with the Xbox Series S. Others have theorized that the alternative option could then be a handheld platform that is designed to work either alongside the PS6 or on its own.

If you're skeptical about the idea of Sony getting back into the handheld space in a major way, there are two major reasons why this could make sense. For starters, the PlayStation Portal has been a massive success for Sony since its arrival in 2023. In fact, the PS5 accessory has done far better from a commercial standpoint than Sony expected, which shows that there is a desire for handhelds from its own users.

The second reason would then just be the general renaissance that gaming handhelds of all types have seen over the past few years. Whether it be Nintendo with its lineup of Switch consoles, or Valve with the Steam Deck, handhelds are bigger than they have been in well over a decade. Naturally, Sony surely sees this and in turn wants a piece of that pie, which is how it got into the market in the first place with the PSP back in 2005.

Still, since this is just a rumor, it's worth stressing that everything here be taken as such. Sony is likely considering all possibilities for its next-generation console and those plans are almost surely not set in stone just yet. Whether or not a return of PlayStation handhelds could also happen around the launch of the PS6 remains to be seen, but it now seems more possible than it once did a decade ago.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Could Soon Get a Major Upgrade on PC https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/gta-5-v-grand-theft-auto-5-pc-steam-upgrade/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 00:15:00 +0000 Logan Moore 4c64b403-4287-4db4-ba41-fc83642d4b3a

It looks as though Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC could soon be getting a major upgrade that players have been waiting for. Back in 2022, Rockstar Games released an updated version of GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S that better took advantage of the hardware that each boasts. Since then, though, the PC edition of the game hasn't been improved in turn, despite ongoing requests from players. Now, if a new update to GTA 5 is any indication, it looks like this could soon be changing.

As of this past week, a huge patch for Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC went live and brought with it anti-cheat support for GTA Online. Outside of this addition, the update did essentially nothing else to the game at the current moment that players would notice. However, thanks to one notable Rockstar Games insider, it looks as though the studio is paving the one for another patch that might bring about larger changes soon enough.

According to @TezFunz2 on X, there is "a leftover metadata file" found in GTA 5 that points to Rockstar working on a "Gen9" version of the game for PC. For those unaware, Gen9 is the generation of consoles that contains the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Tez notes that this iteration of GTA 5 has been in the works since earlier in 2024 at Rockstar. Other than this, details are sparse for the time being.

So what would this update mean for Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC if it were to release? Well, based on what was seen on PS5 and Xbox, the game would be able to feature a handful of different graphical modes that aren't currently available. These modes would be able to improve the performance of fidelity of GTA 5 and would also be able to incorporate ray-tracing and additional HDR options. All of this in tandem with general improvements to lighting, draw distances, shadows, and a number of other visual components would all be likely to be found in the patch.

With Grand Theft Auto 6 on the horizon in 2025, it might seem unnecessary for Rockstar to release this update for Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC so late. That being said, the next GTA installment won't be on PC immediately, which means that those who play solely on the platform will be left playing GTA 5 for a bit longer. This Gen9 upgrade would definitely help bridge the gap to whenever GTA 6 eventually comes to PC in 2026, 2027, or beyond.

PS5 30th Anniversary Prices Leak Ahead of Release https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-ps5-30th-anniversary-price-leak/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 22:28:00 +0000 Logan Moore a042d94c-8efe-429e-bf6e-86254921e81c

The prices of some of PlayStation's upcoming 30th Anniversary items have leaked ahead of launch. Later this week on September 26th, Sony will be putting up a PS5, PS5 Pro, DualSense, DualSense Edge, and PlayStation Portal that are all modeled after the look of the original PlayStation console. While extensive details on each item have already been disclosed, Sony has until now remained dodgy on the price of each. Now, ahead of this pre-order date, a new report has given us a better idea of what to expect.

According to Dealabs, prices for the base PS5 console and the accompanying DualSense controller have now been unveiled. The standard PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary console bundle is said to retail for $499.99. This represents about a $50 price increase from the base version of the PS5 Digital Edition that is available now. As for the DualSense 30th Anniversary controller, this is said to be sold for $79.99. Even though this controller will be much more limited, Sony isn't hiking its price in turn and is selling it for the standard value of most DualSense controllers.

See PS5 Pro on Amazon (Launches October 10th)

The biggest question when it comes to price remains the PS5 Pro that Sony is selling. Unlike other items in this collection, the PS5 Pro is only being sold in a bundle that includes the console, a DualSense Edge controller, and a DualSense charging station. All of these accessories on their own would retail for over $900, but this bundle will also be very limited with only 12,300 in total being manufactured. As a result, some PlayStation fans believe that this PS5 Pro bundle could be sold for over $1,000, at a minimum.

As for the DualSense Edge and PlayStation Portal, there's reason to believe that they might not retail for more than the standard versions of each that Sony is currently selling. Since the 30th Anniversary DualSense is being sold for the same amount as normal DualSense controllers, this means that the DualSense Edge and PS Portal could both retail for $199.99. This isn't guaranteed just yet, but we should know more for certain soon.

Outside of the release of all of this 30th Anniversary PS5 gear, Sony may have even more major news planned for this week. A new State of Play event is claimed to be transpiring on Tuesday, September 24th. This will then be followed by an appearance of PlayStation at Tokyo Game Show 2024 to end the week. Be sure to stay tuned to ComicBook in the days ahead as we'll have a lot to share with you over that time.

Ubisoft Teases Next-Gen Far Cry Games https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/far-cry-games-next-gen/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 21:40:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer d4716a9e-3383-4be6-98c0-f463339b7cc4

It looks like Ubisoft is already hard at work on the future of Far Cry games or more specifically, the "next-generation" of Far Cry games. Following the release of Far Cry New Dawn and Far Cry 6 -- the latest installments in the series, which both critically and commercially underwhelmed -- the Far Cry series is in a rough place. It's been over two games since the commercial highs of Far Cry 5, one of the best-selling Ubisoft games of all time. And even longer since the series was critically-acclaimed, which it hasn't been since Far Cry 3. Ubisoft needs to both refresh the series whilst re-capturing what once made it great. That is no easy task, but it looks poised to try.

At the moment of writing this, Ubisoft is currently aiming to hire a 3D Programming Team Lead to work on not just Far Cry, but the "next-generation" of Far Cry games.

"As a 3D Programmer Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading a team of skilled 3D programmers in the development of the next generation of the Far Cry branded games," reads the job listing in question. "You will split your time between team management and project management."

Now, it is unclear if this is just another way to refer to future Far Cy games or if it means literally next-generation Far Cry games. The job listing refers to the series as "FarCry," which doesn't reinforce confidence that it knows what it talking about. And this sometimes happens with job listings, especially if the hiring is outsourced. Whatever the case, it confirms more Far Cry games are coming, or at least one.

There's been no official word of a new Far Cry, but there have been plenty of rumors from various sources. The latest -- at least from reputable sources -- came back at the start of the year and claimed that two Far Cry games were in the works, one of which will be a proper mainline installment (aka Far Cry 7) and another that will be a multiplayer game. It has been suggested one of these games could release as early as next year. If this is the case, we should be hearing about it soon.

Stardew Valley Update 1.6 Gets Console and Mobile Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/stardew-valley-update-1-6-console-mobile-release-date-november/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 21:30:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 37cd6d52-1000-41d6-b48f-95c39d76768e

Stardew Valley update 1.6 finally has a console release date. The long-awaited, meaty update hit PC back on March 19, giving PC players countless hours of new content and dozens of improvements to the popular farming sim. Unfortunately, for those on console and mobile devices, the update, at the time, was PC-only. Meanwhile, there was no word of when this would change. Develooped ConcernedApe said the update was going to come to consoles and mobile devices, but there was no word of when exactly. Fast-forward, and we now have this information.

Taking to social media platform X, developer ConcernedApe -- aka Eric Barone -- revealed the Stardew Valley Update 1.6 will come to consoles and mobile on November 4. In the process of revealing this information, Barone also revealed why the updates come to PC first, noting the PC-only release almost serves as a beta test for the console versions, which are much harder and expensive to patch. That said, Barone did not anticipate the gap between the PC and console/mobile releases to be this significant.

"I've always released on PC first, because it's sort of a 'beta tes' to make sure there are no critical (e.g. save-destroying) bugs, which are a much bigger deal on consoles because they can't be patched out as quickly," said Barone. "However, I never intended for the delay to be this long."

Elsewhere in the replies to the post relaying the news to console and mobile players, Barone reveals that he personally recommends starting fresh with a new farm if you are going to jump into the game when the update releases, however, you can also experience "almost everything" new with a existing save as well.

"You can still experience almost everything new with your existing save, but if you have any interest in starting a new farm it would be ideal to start fresh," said Barone. "Some of the new things, for example, are different in year 1 than in year 2+. Besides, it's fun to start a new farm right?"

As for whether there will be any differences between the PC Update 1.6 and the console/mobile Update 1.6, we don't know. Barone doesn't say, suggesting that if there is, it is minimal and not that consequential.

Pokemon Go Adding New Shinies and Another Master Ball Opportunity in New Event https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/pokemon-go-new-shinies-another-master-ball-october-event/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 20:56:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps ffc4fccd-19c8-4c77-bb1c-bb048e4b611a

Pokemon Go's focus on content from Pokemon Sword and Shield will continue this season in a new event rolling out next month. The Galarian Expedition Event is adding a total of four new Shiny Pokemon to the game: Zamazenta, Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. The event kicks off on Friday, October 4th at 10 a.m. local time, and will run through Friday, October 11th at 8 p.m. local time. That week, Zamazenta will be appearing in Five-Star Raids. However, the three Galarian Legendary Birds can still only be found when players use Adventure Incense.

The Galarian Legendary Birds have a nasty tendency to flee quickly, so players will be happy to know that the game is offering another opportunity to acquire a Master Ball. Unfortunately, there is a catch, as the Master Ball is obtained by completing new Masterwork Research, which will cost $7.99. In addition to the Master Ball, buyers will also get XP, Stardust, and encounters with Galarian variants like Mr. Mime and Farfetch'd. As always, players will have to decide if that price is worth it, but it is an option for anyone in need of another Master Ball.

The Shiny versions of the Galarian Legendary Birds are all pretty great, as they all follow a specific pattern: the Shiny versions have the same color patterns as their Kanto versions. So, each one still retains the neat redesign elements we saw in Sword and Shield, but with the original colors, including blue for Articuno, yellow for Zapdos, and orange for Moltres. For some people, that might kind of defeat the purpose of having the Galarian variants in the first place (especially when they're so rare to begin with). Still, it's a great variant, and Shiny collectors are definitely going to want to track them down.

Right after Shiny Zacian makes its debut in Pokemon Go (which is happening in just a few days), Shiny Zamazenta will start to appear. The Shiny version of Zamazenta also has a coloration that's fairly unique compared to the standard version. The Pokemon's normally red body has been swapped for a dark pink, while its blue hair has been exchanged for red. If you missed out on the giveaway in Pokemon Sword and Shield a few years ago, this might be your best opportunity to get a Shiny Zamazenta!

Asmongold Slams the Proportions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard Characters: "This Is Awful" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/asmongold-dragon-age-the-veilguard-characters/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 20:24:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 3114e484-3750-4ec5-a049-8ffe0043f5a0

Since the full reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard earlier this year, the game's art direction has been heavily critiqued. Compared to Dragon Age: Inquisition -- and the games before it -- Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a more stylized look. Why BioWare opted for the visual change, isn't entirely clear, but judging by the Internet's reaction it was the incorrect call. And it is once again the look of the game that is dominating discourse. This time it is thanks a Reddit post on the Dragon Age Reddit page that pointed out the proportions of the game's characters are a bit wonky.

The post reveals, with visual proof, the reason the characters look uncanny to so many is the fact that the proportions are not quite realistic. The results are characters with narrow shoulders, oversized heads, and a general look that is far more stylized and far less realistic than previous games.

The post has been making the rounds and even caught the attention of popular YouTuber and streamer, Asmongold, who slammed the characters of the game as awful looking.

"Um, wow. Wait, wow. It didn't look stupid until I saw it not look stupid," said Asmongold. "That's crazy. I actually hate the game more now because it has been fixed. I should have never watched this."

Asmongold continues: "How did this get through? I really wonder, how the f**k did this get through? This is awful. Who the f**k would want to look like this.

As you can see, the issue seems worse with certain characters. For example, Lucanis Dellamorte. The head of the master assassin looks disproportionate to his body, especially with his narrowed shoulders. Other characters, this stylization is less noticeable though. Whether this is something BioWare can fix, remains to be seen. This is, of course, assuming it wants to fix the issue in the first place. Considering this was a deliberate choice, it may have no desire to tweak the character models, but with all the negative feedback they've been getting perhaps their position will soften and change.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to release worldwide on October 31. When it releases, it will be available via PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. For all of our previous and extensive coverage on the upcoming BioWare RPG, click here.

Dead Rising Fans Can't Believe How Good Deluxe Remaster Is: "Thank You Capcom" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dead-rising-1-remaster-deluxe-capcom-response/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 20:23:00 +0000 Logan Moore 83dd5c93-c771-444c-a9cb-7c2de96480a2

Dead Rising fans have been thrilled to see how great Capcom's new "Deluxe Remaster" of the original game in the series is. When it was first shown off earlier this summer, some of the initial responses to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster were mixed, to say the least. Fans were divided to see some of the changes that Capcom was choosing to make, notably to the game's protagonist Frank West, and were concerned that this could spell larger issues with the title. Fortunately, with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster now having been released, the response has been quite positive.

Since its launch mere days ago, fans on the official Dead Rising subreddit have been overwhelmingly praising Deluxe Remaster. This has even been true of those who criticized Frank West's new look in the game when it was first shown off. While some have complained of bugs that seem to specifically inhabit the PC version of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, virtually everyone who has played it so far has found it to be great.

"[Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster] is so good I don't care what anyone says," said u/Kingmarvelfan on Reddit. "I've been having a good time. Feels like playing Dead Rising for the first time again. [...] I hope we get more remasters, sequels, and spin-offs. This game has so much love [put] into it. [...] Thank you Capcom for giving us this game."

This sentiment of seeing new Dead Rising games come about in the wake of Deluxe Remaster has also been a common one. Following the dismal critical and commercial performance of Dead Rising 4, many fans assumed that Capcom might opt to never again return to the series. Deluxe Remaster has obviously proven those beliefs to be incorrect, but the future of Dead Rising as a whole is still hazy. If nothing else, Capcom could look to give this same "Deluxe Remaster" treatment next to Dead Rising 2 as it was also released in the same console generation as the original Dead Rising. Whether or not any wholly new entries end up happening, though, still isn't known, but hope seems to have been renewed by those in the Dead Rising community once again.

New Texas Chain Saw Massacre Mode Is Drawing Positive Comparisons to Friday the 13th: The Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/texas-chain-saw-massacre-rush-week-mode-positive-comparisons-friday-the-13th/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 19:22:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps d412cef1-673f-4231-b54e-be341580a41e

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is adding a new mode this month, which will be free to all players. The mode hasn't launched just yet, but it's called Rush Week, and it's already drawing major comparisons to the long delisted Friday the 13th: The Game. With just a few days to go, fans of Gun Media's previous game seem very excited. The new mode is 1v6, with players either taking on the role of Johnny, or six new sorority girls. In a stark contrast to the main game, none of the girls have perks, and instead will have to rely on items found in the game's brand-new environment: a sorority house.

A trailer for the new mode can be found below.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game acts as a prequel to the 1974 film, and features a mix of characters from the original movie, as well as some created specifically for the game. Johnny is one such original character, and Rush Week was the result of trying to explain the character's big screen absence. The new mode takes place five years after the main game, with Johnny on the run, and doing his killing solo. As Johnny kills each of the sorority girls in Rush Week, he becomes stronger. There's also a Fear system, where the more afraid a girl is, the easier it is for Johnny to track them. However, the girls can lower their Fear level by completing certain tasks.

As previously mentioned, the girls do have some tricks of their own that can be used against Johnny. A new mechanic involves dousing Johnny in perfume, making it easier to know his location. The girls also have defensive items like knives and pepper spray, as well as key items that can help them survive. Default cosmetics for the girls will include Pajamas, Cheerleader, and Nightie, and everyone that plays the mode ahead of the game's October patch will get the Towel and Laundry Day outfits for free. After the patch goes live, those two skins will cost $1.99 each.

All in all, this new mode sounds exactly like what players have been asking for! On X/Twitter, the first gameplay trailer for Rush Week has gotten very positive reception. A lot of this is due to the connection to Friday the 13th: The Game, but there's also the fact that Texas Chain Saw Massacre players have been starving for new content. It remains to be seen how the mode will be received when it goes live, but we won't have to wait long to find out! Rush Week early access will be available on September 26th through the Content Pass (priced at $19.99), and it will be free to everyone on September 30th.

How do you feel about this new mode The Texas Chain Saw Massacre? Are you excited to check it out? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

One of the Worst Resident Evil Games Might Be Making a Comeback https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/resident-evil-games-operation-raccoon-city-steam/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 19:22:00 +0000 Logan Moore e8c961e9-cdf9-4d70-a90c-749a8b87ad12

What is widely considered one of the worst entries in the Resident Evil saga could soon be available to purchase once again. While Capcom has seen a major revival with its survival-horror series over the past few years, this wasn't always the case. Prior to the days of Resident Evil VII, Resident Evil Village, and a number of modern remakes coming about, Capcom went through a rough stretch with the series. Now, it looks as though one of the titles from that era will be returning.

Recently, it was discovered that Capcom began making changes to the metadata of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City on Steam. Released during the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation, Operation Raccoon City was a co-op-centric spin-off in the Resident Evil series. A few years back, however, Capcom removed Operation Raccoon City from sale on Steam due to issues with the game that came from it being part of the Games for Windows Live program. Now, Capcom has made a small tweak to the title which could suggest it might soon be available on Steam again.

While it's great to see that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City might be more easily accessible soon, it might not make the game any more popular. On Metacritic, Operation Raccoon City boasts a terrible 52/100 aggregate review score, which is one of the worst in the entire Resident Evil franchise. Fans aren't any more positive about the game, either, as it has a dismal 4.9/10 average user score on the platform. Despite the low scores, it being buyable on Steam would still be a net positive from a preservation standpoint.

If you're unfamiliar with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, you can get a look at its throwback launch trailer and synopsis below.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

"It's September 1998 and Raccoon City is being consumed by Umbrella's deadly T-virus outbreak. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite squad into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Meanwhile, the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of elite Spec-Ops soldiers to track down the source of the mysterious outbreak.

Gear up as a member of the Umbrella Security Service and battle against all of the forces at play in Raccoon City. You'll come face-to-face with horrifying Resident Evil enemies like hunters and lickers as you navigate the Raccoon City Streets in search of your targets which include series icons like Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy.

One thing is for sure, in Raccoon City, all roads lead to hell."

Dragon's Dogma 2 Lowest Price Yet in New Sale https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dragons-dogma-2-sale/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 18:36:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 33124720-89d1-485f-b24d-2b28db4a82eb

Dragon's Dogma 2 is the lowest price it ever has been thanks to a couple new sales. The new Capcom game was released back on March 22 via the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. And it was an early hit in 2024, releasing to an 88 on Metacritic and shipping three million units in its first couple of months on the market. Because it is fairly new and popular, it hasn't been heavily discounted yet, or at least it hadn't been.

Right now, both PS5 and PC users can grab the game for cheaper than it ever has been. On PS5, the deal comes the way of the PlayStation Store, where Dragon's Dogma 2 has been discounted by 43 percent, which means it is only $39.89 rather than $69.99. This deal is live until October 10.

This is the cheapest it has ever been, but the game is even cheaper on PC right now via Fanatical. On Fanatical, PC users can grab a Steam key for the Capcom game for $35.34, which is thanks to a 50 percent discount.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is also on sale on Xbox Series X|S, but the price isn't quite as good. Further the deal -- which makes the game $41.99, via a 40 percent discount -- is only live for 30 more hours at the moment of publishing.

Of course, with the holiday season looming, those with patience may be able to grab the game for cheaper in a couple months. However, there is no guarantee it will be cheaper than these prices.

"Set forth on your grand adventure, Arisen! Dragon's Dogma is a single player, narrative driven action-RPG series that challenges the players to choose their own experience - from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, their party, how to approach different situations and more," reads an official blurb about the game for all of those unfamiliar. "Now, in this long-awaited sequel, the deep, explorable fantasy world of Dragon's Dogma 2 awaits. On your journey, you'll be joined by Pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings, in an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure.

New God of War Ragnarok Update Will Fix One of the Game's Biggest Criticisms https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/god-of-war-ragnarok-ps5-ps4-update-puzzles/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 17:57:00 +0000 Logan Moore 8d95bdf9-2a73-4a26-b311-f31107cde9d7

A new update for God of War Ragnarok is soon coming to PS5 and PS4 that will fix a widespread complaint that many players have had with the game. As of this past week, Ragnarok released on PC and became the latest PlayStation first-party title to hit the platform. While this launch is great news for those who have been eager to play GoW Ragnarok since its arrival in 2022, Santa Monica Studio has also resolved an ongoing problem that has been tied to the title.

Alongside the release of God of War Ragnarok on PC, Santa Monica Studio revealed that it will be adding a new option to the game's Settings menu that will let players toggle off puzzle hints. For those who turn this feature on, it "will reduce the frequency with which you hear puzzle hints from your companions." Since its launch in 2022, this is something that players have continued to find bothersome as characters in-game have been criticized for trying to provide solutions to puzzles far too soon after encountering them.

In addition to this option, Santa Monica Studio has also added a new Audio Description feature to God of War Ragnarok. This accessibility setting looks to provide "audio descriptions of visual events during cinematics" that give "additional contextual information alongside the spoken dialogue to create a more detailed experience for players with low vision." Although this option is one that many likely won't use, it's great to see SMS implement it for those who might need it.

For now, the only downside with these new features in God of War Ragnarok is that they haven't yet come to the PS5 and PS4 versions of the game just yet. Santa Monica Studio says these options will come to GoW Ragnarok in a future title update on console platforms but it hasn't provided a release window for said update. In the interim, those playing on PC will find that each setting is already available right now.

Persona 6 Rumor Reveals Massive Upgrade to Social Links https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/persona-6-leak-social-links/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 17:40:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 17ee9c2d-b173-4771-9c4e-e9864b49ee79

A new Persona 6 rumor reveals what is being described as a massive upgrade to social links. According to the latest rumor about the long-awaited, often-rumored Persona 6 is that it will release worldwide sometime next year. The longer Persona fans have to wait for the next installment in the RPG series, the more that is expected of it in terms of improvements and upgrade. Those who come to the series for the social links should be pleased that it seems much of the improvement and upgrade has been poured into this element of the game.

According to the rumor, "social links are expanded upon massively" in Persona 6. To this end, there is said to be "a lot more interactivity." Those who played Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal, will know one of the issues with social links is choices didn't feel like that mattered very much. In Persona 6, it is said "choices matter quite a bit more."

The rumor -- at least as it pertains to social links -- concludes with a rather vague tease that the game will be "utilizing some older mechanics alongside the new ones to spice things up."

As for the source of this rumor, it comes from an anonymous X user that goes by "p0wyful." The source does not have a track record to back up their claims, however, what they have said has been endorsed by a fairly reliable source, Ryan from the Bronx, who used to go by Midori, an alias for a prolific Sega leaker. Despite this, everything here should still be taken with a grain of salt. Everything here is a rumor, and even if it is accurate, it is subject to change that could render it inaccurate over time.

At the moment of publishing, Atlus has not commented on this rumor and the speculation it has created in any capacity. We don't suspect this will change for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. Pokemon Trading Card Game Reveals New Set https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/pokemon-trading-card-game-tcg-supercharged-breaker-new-set/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 16:56:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps c2522dd8-1308-4638-a089-cdf4773ef22a

A new set has been officially revealed for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. Announced at Japan's Champions League (via PokeBeach), the set will be called Supercharged Breaker, and is expected to arrive in Japan on October 18th. Stellar Tera Pikachu is featured prominently in the artwork for the set, and players can at least expect a traditional Pikachu ex card, as well as a secret version. Leaks revealed that set a while ago, but now we have official confirmation as well as the release date. As has been the case with past sets, Supercharged Breaker will not be released in North America on its own; instead, it will be part of the Surging Sparks set, which is coming to North America in November.

A full art card of Pikachu ex from Supercharged Breaker can be found below.

pokemon-full-art-pikachu-ex.png
(Photo: Pokemon)

Supercharged Breaker is the latest set of the Pokemon TCG based on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Specifically, this one seems to be inspired by the game's DLC, which is where the Stellar Tera Type was first introduced. Surging Sparks is pulling cards from multiple Japanese sets, including the Stellar Ceruledge ex and Stellar Sylveon ex decks, as well as Paradise Dragona and now Supercharged Breaker. Thematically, all these cards should fit together nicely, given the overall focus on Terapagos, the Stellar Tera Type, and the DLC storyline from The Indigo Disk.

In the absence of a new Pokemon game or generation, we can expect to see the TCG leaning on Scarlet and Violet for the foreseeable future, as well as other existing Pokemon games. One thing we can expect from early 2025 sets is that Trainer's Pokemon will be making a comeback. Trainer's Pokemon were the core concept of the Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets early in the TCG's lifespan. At this time, we have no idea when Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be released, only that it's coming sometime in 2025. When it does come out, we can probably expect to see some sets covering the game's new Pokemon and (possible) new Mega Evolutions. However, that's all just speculation until we get some kind of announcement!

Nintendo Switch 2: Nintendo Needs to Bring These 5 Franchises Back to Life https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/nintendo-switch-2-games-star-fox-donkey-kong/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 15:26:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 08242f82-8de6-4f5a-a4af-e2a4ea123010

During the Switch era, most of Nintendo's biggest franchises were treated quite well. Nintendo fans got to play critically acclaimed entries in the company's biggest franchises like Mario and Zelda, and we even saw the return of obscure ones like Another Code and Famicom Detective Club. Unfortunately, not all of Nintendo's franchises received the same treatment. In fact, some of Nintendo's best characters were relegated to cameos in other games or merely appeared in remasters. As the Switch era draws to a close, a new Nintendo console is on the horizon, and that could mean a chance for the company to bring back some favorites that have been missing in action.

Star Fox

When Nintendo Switch launched back in 2017, the system came just 11 months after Star Fox Zero's release on Wii U. Unfortunately, that timing didn't seem to help Fox McCloud's chances of getting his own game on Switch. The heroes of the Lylat System weren't totally ignored on the Switch as they had a major role to play in Starlink: Battle for Atlas. With a new system on the way, the timing for a new Star Fox game couldn't be better. Not only have fans been begging to see the series return, but a space combat game would give Nintendo a chance to highlight what the new console can do.

Donkey Kong

Like the Star Fox team, Donkey Kong kind of got shorted in the Switch era. A Donkey Kong game for the system was apparently in development at Toys for Bob, but plans fell through. Donkey Kong did get a few games released on the system, but Nintendo focused on remakes and remasters, as opposed to new adventures. DK and Diddy deserve better, and it would be excellent to see the whole Kong family make a comeback. While a new 2D Donkey Kong Country would make sense, it might be time to give the character another chance at a 3D platformer; it's been more than two decades since Donkey Kong 64, and it's time the big ape got another chance in that format.

Eternal Darkness

(Photo: Nintendo)

Nintendo systems have been playing host to M-rated games for decades now, but it wasn't until the Switch era that we really got to see the company shed its "kiddie" image. The Switch proved that franchises like Yakuza, Grand Theft Auto, and Red Dead Redemption can all find an audience on Switch, and the eShop is filled to the brim with games that never would have been released on past Nintendo systems. The timing has never been better for Nintendo to bring back Eternal Darkness, its first-party horror title from the GameCube era. The game struggled to find an audience back in 2002, but it's long past time to dust the series off and introduce it to a new audience.

Wave Race

There simply aren't enough good jet skiing games, and none of them have reached the same heights as Wave Race. Starting life on Game Boy, Wave Race didn't really make a name for itself until its second entry, which came out on Nintendo 64. Wave Race 64's water physics and lighting hold up remarkably well for a game that released in 1996. If Switch 2 really does have significantly more power than Nintendo's current console, Wave Race would be a great way to highlight the tech improvements. In fact, a new Wave Race would make for a great launch title!

Elite Beat Agents

There are a lot of great video games that simply don't find an audience, regardless of critical praise, and Elite Beat Agents is a perfect example. The rhythm game was a critical darling on DS, and has even been called one of the best games on the system. A sequel on Switch 2 could give the series a lot more exposure, and a second chance at life. Like Wave Race, it could also be a strong release window option, giving fans something quirky and different to pick up alongside higher profile options.

*******

With Nintendo rumored to announced Switch 2 soon, we should soon get an idea what games will be coming in the console's first year. Hopefully we'll see some (or all) of these franchises make the cut!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Director Reveals All the Work That Went Into Adding Sora from Kingdom Hearts https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/super-smash-bros-ultimate-sakurai-sora-kingdom-hearts-nintendo-switch/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 15:19:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 73cf2de6-b51d-428b-91a9-0f5b418409fb

For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighter's Pass, Nintendo ended things on a high note with the addition of Sora from Kingdom Hearts. The final DLC fighter came as a gigantic shock to many people, given the licensing deals that would have to be in place with both Square Enix and Disney. Nintendo managed to make it happen, but then it came time to actually bring Sora to life in the game. In a newly released video, Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai offered a deep dive into Sora's development, including many of the changes he personally requested from his team.

In previous videos on the "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games" channel, we've gotten a glimpse into Sakurai's perfectionism. The director puts a lot of thought into every single aspect of the game, and that was very much the case for Sora, as well. In Sakurai's latest video, he talks about everything from the clapping animation on the loss screen, to the designs of Sora's eyes for the Timeless River alternate costume. For fans of both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Kingdom Hearts, the video shows how much care goes into the game's fighters, and all the little nuances that might go unnoticed. While some of these elements might seem minor, they quickly add up! Readers can find the video below.

At this time, we don't know how many videos are left in the Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games channel. It was announced back in June that Sakurai had filmed the final video, but not when it will actually air. No one really knows why Sakurai is bringing things to an end, but there has been speculation that the director has started work on a new Smash Bros. game for Nintendo's next console. Speculation suggests that the so-called "Nintendo Switch 2" will be unveiled sometime in the very near future, with a launch in 2025.

Super Smash Bros. games have become a staple of Nintendo consoles over the last 25 years, and it's likely we can expect a new entry in the series within the next few years. For the time being, fans will have to continue to enjoy Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and all the effort that Sakurai and his team put into the game!

Do you like seeing Sakurai's development videos? When do you think we'll see a new Smash Bros. game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Satisfactory Players Discover New Feature After 400 Hours With the Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/satisfactory-game-calculator-feature/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 15:19:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 64202a86-6c72-444c-9130-8a569fbcd8a7 Satisfactory players have discovered a new feature after 400-plus hours with the mega popular Steam game. After a five-year early access stint that began in 2019, Satisfactory finally hit 1.0 and fully released on Steam earlier this month on September 10. Since this full release, it has been one of the most-played games on Steam, which isn't very surprising considering it sold over 5.5 million copies in early access. And many of the millions who have played it, have dumped countless hours into the game. Yet, some of the game's most hardcore players who have racked up the most hours are discovering features for the first time in the post 1.0-launch era.

Over on the game's Reddit page, one of the top posts this week is a user revealing a helpful, handy tip. It is a pretty simple tip, but yet the comment section reveals a good number of fans who had no idea it existed. To this end, if some of the most hardcore Satisfactory fans had no idea about the feature, it is safe to assume the many more casual fans also don't know about it.

For those that haven't seen the post in question it was supposed to serve as a PSA-type post for those new to the game, revealing to said new players that the search bar has a calculator in it that can be access by pressing "N." This was supposed to be a PSA for new players, yet it served veteran players just as much.

"Not just new players, 400-plus in game and I didn't know this," reads one comment. "I've played since the game came to early access and that's news to me," reads a second comment. A third comment drives the point home further: "I have about 400 hours in. I never knew that..."

Some players not only learned about this handy tip, but learned that there is a search bar in the game; a basic feature for those that know it exists, but a game-changing feature for those that don't. How many exactly have no idea about the calculator trick, let alone the search bar function, we don't know, but it seems like it is a surprising number of players.

Ads on Xbox Consoles Are Getting Worse https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/xbox-one-series-x-consoles-ads/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 14:28:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 04c06c27-9074-4ccf-b9dd-72a6ea5d906b

Ads on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles are getting worse. Over time, Microsoft has been getting more and more aggressive with ad placement on the Xbox Series X|S. Invasive ads already clutter and ruin the Xbox Series X|S dashboard, something that has been annoying Xbox fans for a while. We also know that Microsoft is reportedly exploring a tier of Xbox Game Pass that will make players watch ads in order to play games. And this ties into what Microsoft revealed last year, which was that it was looking into ways to include ads in games, something Xbox fans threatened to boycott the brand over. In the face of public backlash, Xbox has done nothing to alleviate concerns of players, it's only doubled down.

Late last year, Xbox began experimenting with pop-up ads that took over the screen when the Xbox consoles were booted up. It did this with the likes of Starfield and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, two games under its umbrella as Bethesda and Activision products. Xbox fans hated it, and it hasn't been seen since Call of Duty. It is back though, and it's even worse now.

Recently, when Xbox Series X|S users have booted up their consoles, some have been greeted with a brand new pop-up ad that takes over the entire screen for EA Sports FC 25. What is more offensive about this, is that EA Sports FC 25 is not even an Xbox product, opening the door for this policy to extend to third-party games, and as a result, become more common.

Those on Xbox One, hopping to escape this new generation problem, there is bad news. The Xbox One isn't safe. While this policy did not start during the Xbox One era, Xbox One consoles have been retroactively fitted to support the same type of ads.

Xbox fans are naturally not pleased with the latest ad and the return of an experiment they thought they effectively boycotted. What Microsoft's plans are for this type of ad placement, we don't know, but it clearly has not abandoned the idea, at the very least.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Trailer Reveals When the Game Can Come to Xbox https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/silent-hill-2-remake-trailer-ps5-exclusive-xbox-series-x-s/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 14:02:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps adc3d121-a14c-431a-8f40-e10ce2fc4ee9

When Konami's Silent Hill 2 releases next month, it will be a timed console exclusive on PlayStation 5. We've known this for some time now, but a new trailer for the game has offered us an idea how long that period of exclusivity will last. According to the trailer, PlayStation will have the exclusive rights to the game for one year, lasting through October 8, 2025. At this point, Konami will be free to bring it to Xbox Series X|S, and maybe even Nintendo Switch 2, which should be out by then. Until then, PS5 and PC will be the only options for the game.

The trailer for Silent Hill 2 can be found below. The language about exclusivity can be seen around the 0:54 mark.

While the exclusivity period is guaranteed for one year, there are no guarantees that Silent Hill 2 will actually come to Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, or any other platforms. It will largely depend on the game's level of success, and whether Konami feels it's worthwhile to bring it elsewhere. If the game receives negative reviews, Konami might think twice before committing to bringing it anywhere else. Thankfully, hands-on impressions of Silent Hill 2 have been largely positive; if that trend holds for the game's actual reviews, Konami might want to get as many sales as it can out of the game.

The original version of Silent Hill 2 is often held up as one of the greatest video games of all-time. As a result, many fans have been cautious about their enthusiasm for the remake, and some have felt that development duties should have been given to a more seasoned developer. Prior to the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team has mostly been known for making smaller, indie horror games. Bloober Team is well-aware of these concerns, and has asked fans to "give us a chance."

Hopefully Silent Hill 2 will launch in a state that makes people want to play it on other platforms! With the game's October 8th release date around the corner, we should know soon how the game will turn out.

New GameStop Dragon Age Deal Is Selling Out Fast https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/gamestop-dragon-age-game-deal/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 13:25:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 45d7ced5-e2e3-4581-8710-381ce3d523b5

GameStop has a new Dragon Age deal that could sell out very fast, or at least that is what the popularity of the deal suggests is going to happen. Right now, the GameStop deal has the "Bestseller" tag. This tag has always been ambiguous, but, as far as we know, it is reserved for only the hottest deals. And often what follows is supplies running out. Whether this will happen this time, remains to be seen, but it is currently one of the best-selling games on the GameStop website.

The deal also comes at the perfect time as it comes right before the new installment in the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, releases next month. While BioWare insists the new Dragon Age game is a great starting point for new fans, it really isn't. While the connections between Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 to the new game aren't that substantial, the connection to the third and most recent game, Dragon Age: Inquisition, is substantial. To this end, anyone interested in Dragon Age: The Veilguard should really play Dragon Age: Inquisition first. This is where the GameStop deal comes into play.

See $3.99 Dragon Age Deal at GameStop at GameStop

Right now, GameStop has the Xbox version of Dragon Age: Inquisition Game of the Year Edition on sale for just $3.99, the cheapest it ever has been. Unfortunately, this deal does not extend to other platforms.

As the name suggests, this isn't just the base game that released in 2014, but bundles together the three DLC releases: Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent, and Trespasser. The latter of these three DLC releases, Trespasser, is not just BioWare at its best, but it is pivotal bridge between Inquisition and The Veilguard.

"When the sky opens up and rains down chaos, the world needs heroes," reads an official blurb about the game. "Become the savior of Thedas in Dragon Age: Inquisition - Game of the Year Edition. You are the Inquisitor, tasked with saving the world from itself. But the road ahead is paved with difficult decisions. Thedas is a land of strife. Factions constantly war with each other even as a larger demonic invasion has begun. And you? You and your band of champions are the only ones who can hold it together. It's your job to lead them...or fall."

How long this offer is going to be available, we don't know. GameStop, per usual, has no information about the availability of the deal. To this end, it may simply be as supplies last. Whatever the case, at the moment of publishing, it remains available.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Possibly Adding Cristiano Ronaldo as Playable Character https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fatal-fury-city-of-the-wolves-cristiano-ronaldo-playable-character-snk/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 13:08:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 7540a98f-bfd8-4914-9892-b9c66d5b40ad

One of the greatest soccer players of all-time seems to be coming to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. In a surprising post on social media, Cristiano Ronaldo shared a video teasing his role in the game. The trailer does not actually show Ronaldo in the fighting game, but does say that "a legendary player joins a legendary game." It's possible he could just appear as an alternate skin for one of the other playable characters, but there's no way of knowing at this time. With Tokyo Game Show around the corner, we could learn more information there.

The trailer for Ronaldo's appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves can be found in the Instagram post below.

Needless to say, the post from Ronaldo has already generated a lot of surprise and a bit of confusion! Guest appearances in fighting games have become sort of a common thing in recent years, and Fatal Fury developer SNK is no stranger to this practice. In fact, Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui will both be appearing as playable characters in Street Fighter 6 in the near future. Still, more often than not, we're talking about fictional characters, as opposed to real-life athletes with massive followings. If the goal is to bring a lot more attention to the new Fatal Fury, it's a safe bet putting Ronaldo in the game will do just that.

SNK can hardly be blamed for trying to get more mainstream attention for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves; when the game releases on April 24th, it will have been more than 25 years since the last Fatal Fury's release. While characters like Terry and Mai have made appearances elsewhere, the series has been missing for a very long time. Fatal Fury is well respected among fighting game enthusiasts, but it hardly has the same level of fame as franchises like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. It's impossible to say whether putting Cristiano Ronaldo in the game will make casual audiences try it out, but it's sure to at least make them more aware of it!

Are you looking forward to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves? How do you feel about Ronaldo having some role in the game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

PlayStation Plus Subscribers Losing Free Access to Some of the Best PS3 Games https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-ps-plus-ps3-free-games-october/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 12:42:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer be771ae7-ed83-483c-9269-644609d74ad4

PlayStation Plus subscribers are set to lose free access to two popular PS3 games. The PS3 may have not sold as well as the PS1, PS2 or the PS4, and it will probably be outsold by the PS5 as well. It was a low point for the brand, though after a very poor start that included a sticker shock price and releasing a whole year after the Xbox 360, it actually ended up outselling its Xbox counterpart, an impressive feat considering the Xbox 360 is by far Xbox's most successful and best-selling console. One of the ways it corrected course was great software.

To this end, anyone who spent countless hours grinding Capcom's Ultra Street Fighter 4 or losing track of time while playing Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet will be unhappy to hear the games are leaving the libraries of PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium sometime in October, likely October 15 specifically.

The pair of PS3 games are part of a larder exodus of games that also includes: Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Dragon Quest Heroes, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age, Gotham Knights, The Evil Within, and Toukiden Kiwami.

For those unfamiliar with LittleBigPlanet, it shipped back in 2008 as the first game in what would become a popular series by the same name. The series was pivotal to Sony during the PS3 era, but started to fall off in the PS4 era. And now, it is hardly relevant to Sony in the PS5 era. A far fall from where it was when the first game released, which not only boasts a 95 on Metacritic, but is considered one of the great games of all time.

Meanwhile, Ultra Street Fighter IV was an updated version of 2008's Street Fighter IV that dropped in 2014. A tentpole release in the series, it boasts a 94 on Metacritic and is also considered one of the great PS3-era games.

Xbox Game Pass Users Threaten to Cancel Their Subscription: "Worst Month in the History of Game Pass" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/xbox-game-pass-gamepass-september-subscription/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 00:56:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 1324465a-6411-40d5-8172-cb40971b354b

Some Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are threatening to cancel their subscription service after what they deem to be the "worst month in the history of Game Pass." This is may sound like a hyperbolic take, but that would suggest it is uncommon, and it isn't. Not only has September been light on major additions, but day one games as well. Meanwhile, some of the more compelling games that have been added have been PC only, leaving console players -- who pay more -- in the cold. Making all of this worse, the subscription service has lost better games this month than it has added.

The selection of games will vary depending on taste, but generally this month's biggest new games include Frostpunk 2 (PC only), Age of Mythology: Retold (PC only), Rider's Republic, and Wargroove 2. These are hardly headliner games, two of them are PC only, and three of them are strategy games, a fairly niche genre.

Meanwhile, on the final day of last month Atomic Heart left. This was followed by Payday 3 and Slime Rancher 2 and more in the middle of the month. That's not all though. 10 more games are leaving before the end of the month, including Gotham Knights, Loop Hero, The Walking Dead, Valheim, and a Warhammer 40k game. This means in September, Xbox Game Pass lost 16 games and only added seven games, none of which have been added to the standard tier of the subscription service.

As you would expect, all of this has left Xbox Game Pass subscribers -- especially on console -- quite unhappy. Some are even threatening to cancel their subscriptions after this month.

"Yeah this s**t just isn't worth it anymore, I'm seriously close to cancelling my subscription," writes on subscriber over on Reddit. "Yikes.. haven't really enjoyed Game Pass lately. Thank God for Mafia because it's been a while since I personally have been excited for any game coming," adds a second subscriber.

A third subscriber adds: "Worst month in the history of Game Pass. I didn't care in the slightest for any of those titles. And even if i did, what's with all this strategy, RTS games? Like, this month had zero variety. And they have been sitting on that Activision-Blizzard stash for far too long"

Of course, it is worth noting that Tokyo Game Show is set to go down later this month between September 26 to September 29. It is possible there will be some surprise additions during the show. If there isn't, then Xbox Game Pass may lose some subscribers.

Harry Potter Fans Slam All the Hate Newest Game Is Getting https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/harry-potter-quidditch-champions-game/ Sun, 22 Sep 2024 00:09:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 7d58ef6e-db9b-40fb-90e3-eb844444bff5

Harry Potter fans -- at least those on the series' Reddit page -- agree that all the hate the newest game in franchise is getting is unwarranted. Up until the release of Hogwarts Legacy last year, Harry Potter fans had been starved of new video game releases for a while, as both the movie tie-in games and the LEGO games ran their course. With the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy though, it is safe to assume there will be plenty of games in the Harry Potter universe going forward. To this end, the latest came out just this month.

For those that missed it: Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions came out back on September 3 via PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, with a Nintendo Switch version set to drop on November 8. The game from Unbroken Studios costs $29.99 for anyone that wants to try it out, however, it is also currently free via PS Plus, which has led to more players than normal getting their hands on the game.

According to critics, the Quidditch game isn't all that great, or at least that is what Metacritic scores in the 60s suggest. However, Harry Potter fans over on Reddit seem to be enjoying the game more than critics.

"I've actually enjoyed playing Quidditch Champions," reads the top post on the Harry Potter Reddit page right now. "Contrary to popular opinion I've actually had a really good time playing this game. The mechanics, though can be annoying some times, I thought were pretty straightforward. The whole game reminds me of Rocket League but with brooms .Honestly I don't get all the hate towards it , it's just a fun arcade game nothing more and nothing less."

Of course, this take in isolation wouldn't be that noteworthy, but the popularity of the post suggests there is something to its claims. Meanwhile, some of the comments also echo the sentiment.

Of course, your mileage may vary with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, but if you were put off by the underwhelming reviews for the game, it may be worth giving it a second look, and as noted, if you have PS Plus, you can check it out for free.

According to a well-known Assassin's Creed insider, a new 16-player Assassin's Creed multiplayer game is in the works and releasing next year. The new rumor comes the way of French YouTuber j0nathan, a source that has proven reliable with many Assassin's Creed leaks in the past.

According to the YouTuber, there is a multiplayer game supposed to release next year called Assassin's Creed Invictus, or at least this is the codename. This part isn't clear. Whatever the case, the YouTuber describes the game as kind of like Fall Guys, the popular free-to-play battle royale game that took the world by storm back in the summer of 2020. Adding to this, it is claimed it will feature 16 players competing in several rounds complete with "different games."

These round-based games are said to include team deathmatch, free-for-all, and a speed-focused game that consists of players racing to luminous points scattered around the map. As players progress through these rounds, they will be able to select new powers to put towards a build that will be used in the final round of the game.

As for gameplay, it is described as "very arcade," featuring "hits without real impact" and a bubble-like shield similar to what is in the Super Smash Bros series. Adding to this, it is claimed the camera distance is quite far, which means characters look smaller.

As you'd expect, there will be characters from the games. To this end, the YouTuber mentions Ezio and Cesare Borgia. Meanwhile, maps will be portions from games in the series.

And this is where the rumor dries up. Of course, what is here should be taken with a grain of salt. Not only is everything here just a rumor, but even if it is accurate it is subject to change. Further, it's worth noting that everything here comes through translation. Unfortunately, sometimes vital meaning and context is lost in translation.

As for Ubisoft, so far it has not commented on the rumor nor the speculation it has created. We don't suspect this to change, as it rarely comments on rumors, but if it bucks expectation and does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero's Roster of 182 Characters Is One Giant Dragon Ball Easter Egg https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dragon-ball-sparking-zero-characters-easter-egg/ Sat, 21 Sep 2024 22:04:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 937313cf-9b6b-4dfe-8122-5a3e911dd8da

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has exactly 182 characters in the launch lineup, a roster that's impressive for a number of reasons. For one, having 182 fighters means Sparking! Zero has more characters to start with than any Dragon Ball game in history, and it'll already have more characters than any of the Budokai Tenkaichi games ever got in the past. But in addition to that already notably milestone, Dragon Ball fans are now realizing that the number of characters wasn't a coincidence at all and that it seems to be one big Dragon Ball Easter egg decades in the making.

If the 182-character roster stirred something in your Dragon Ball memories, that's because it appears to be a callback to one of the episodes from the original Dragon Ball series. More specifically, you have to venture back to Dragon Ball Episode 84 which was titled "Rivals and Arrivals" in the English version of the show and helped kick off the Tien Saga. Krillin, Yamcha, and more arrive for the World Martial Arts Tournament and encounter Tien, Chiatzu, and Master Shen, but it's actually from an otherwise unmemorable character that we get the Dragon Ball reference.

Towards the very end of the episode, the announcer who welcomed everyone to the World Martial Arts Tournament thanked them for their attendance and laid out the schedule for what the tournament will look like moving forward. The announcer also said that that specific World Martial Arts Tournament would be the biggest one yet with -- you guessed it -- 182 fighters in attendance.

"This one promises to be the biggest yet, with a record-high attendance of one hundred eighty-two fighters," the announcer said in the episode.

Twitter user BigMeruemFan shared a screenshot of the find to show the scene in question for those who don't have easy access to streaming Dragon Ball. The dialogue is heard in the recap in Episode 85, but you can also hear it at the very end of Episode 84.

It's pretty much impossible for this to be a coincidence, so we can pretty safely assume that this was the intention all along while Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero's roster was being finalized. You'll see some posts from Bandai Namco saying that the game has 181 fighters at launch, but that's only because the version of Goku from Dragon Ball Daima is considered to be the "surprise" character that's part of the preorder bonus.

While it's unclear when this 182-fighter goal was established, it's likely the devs had to dig deep to make the launch roster into the Easter egg that it seems to be. We can see that through characters like Dr. Wheelo and the Frieza Force Soldier which aren't exactly fan-favorites but apparently made the cut to make the Dragon Ball nod possible.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will be out on October 11th, so expect to see all these 182 characters then with even more on the way afterwards as DLCs.
